Project Services Department Manager

POWER’s Digital Utility Business Unit is seeking a Department Manager leading our team of Project Managers and Project Support Staff as we continue building the digital utility of the future! The Digital Utility Business Unit is part of our Advanced Utility Solutions professional services division that primarily focuses on system and software implementation for the Utility industry. We are looking for servant-oriented leaders to help develop our staff, lead our growth strategies, and support our growing backlog of projects and initiatives.

Summary of Roles and Responsibilities:

  • The Project Services Department Manager will have the following roles and responsibilities:

  • Establishment of a department leading the project management, project support and organizational change management teams.

  • Develop and execute annual business plans, strategies, policies, and procedures for the department in coordination and collaboration with your peers in other AUS departments.

  • Manage the day-to-day operational activities for the department.

  • Cultivate staff to be team-oriented, collaborative, and productive.

  • Develop and manage annual business plans in strategic alignment with Digital Utility BU goals.

  • Track, monitor and report the department’s performance against the business plan and goals.

  • Manage staff performance:

  • Recruit, train, mentor, and develop diverse staff to the expectation of high performing professionals

  • Monitor employee performance, set goals and expectations, and provide coaching and feedback to improve individual and team performance.

  • Track, monitor and report personnel development and performance through POWER’s appraisal process.

  • Collaboratively work with your peers across the BU, Division and POWER

  • Plan and coordinate staff assignments, project resourcing, department workload, and workflows.

  • Audit projects and project lifecycle procedures within the department.

  • Coordinate and collaborate with the Digital Utility BUD, other departments, and POWER divisions as needed to achieve goals.

  • Assist in the development and execution of marketing strategies and business development efforts.

  • Lead and manage projects within the department, as necessary to meet department needs and goals.

  • Participate in succession and career development planning.

  • Manage the department by:

  • Adherence to and enforcement of POWER processes and procedures within the department

  • Maintaining healthy employee moral

  • Resolving personnel issues in a fair and timely manner

  • Winning and executing work in the renewables market

  • Accountability for all work performed and executed within the department.

Required Education/Experience:

The Project Services Department Manager must have the following education, experience, skills and knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in GIS, Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Business Management, other technical science degree, or equivalent work experience.

  • 7+ years’ experience managing GIS centric teams with Microsoft’s office suite, including Dynamics, Outlook, Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.

  • Experience with Organizational Change Management Planning and Process Execution

  • Experience with project support staff processes and procedures for Project Coordinators and Project Manager Assistants and other staff support roles.

  • Must have professional, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Requires strong time management skills including the ability to multi-task on various priorities.

  • Must have demonstrated success at leading teams for the success of the company and employees.

  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.

Desired Education/Experience:

  • Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) certification or equivalent experience

  • Experience with Vendor Negotiations / Contracts

  • Experience with Stakeholder Management / Negotiation

POWER is a fun engineering firm. That might seem contradictory to some, but it works for us!

Salary DOE: The pay range for this position is $130K-$170K per year; however, base pay may be higher or lower depending on the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This figure does not include additional compensation such as health benefits, vacation, 401k, etc.
