Job ID360261 LocationTwin Cities Job FamilyResearch-Researchers Full/Part TimePart-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Job Code8352R2 Employee ClassCivil Service About the Job The Lab studies the cellular and molecular mechanisms that regulate photoreceptor cell development, survival, opsin trafficking, and molecular mechanisms of retinal cell and RPE degeneration in age related eye diseases, using cell culture, zebrafish, and mouse models, combined with cutting-edge molecular/cell biology and genomics approaches. The lab utilizes in vivo and in vitro techniques to investigate these phenomena from the genetic to the whole animal level using cell cultures and animal models, state-of-the-art confocal microscopy, and other sophisticated techniques. This is a temporary position expected to last through March 19, 2025 with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance, availability of work, and departmental/ grant funding. The applicant will perform the following job duties: (45%) Conduct research using techniques which include cell culture, gel electrophoresis, PCR, preparation of protein lysates, western blotting, densitometry analysis, histology, plasmid prep, cell transfections, and immunofluorescence microscopy. (25%) Mouse colony maintenance that involves breeding, husbandry, and maintaining appropriate records and tracking animals. (10%) Perform genotyping procedures to characterize mouse colonies. (10%) Participate in meetings with principal investigator and research staff and evaluate/interpret the validity of data as needed. (5%) Carry out assigned duties for ordering and maintaining supply of inventories. (5%) Participate in scientific conferences. Expected Starting Salary Range: $20.00hr to $26.32hr depending on qualifications and experience. Qualifications Required Qualifications: BS/BA and one (1) year of lab experience or equivalent combination of education and experience to equal five (5) years. Experience with animal handling, genotyping, confocal microscopy, western blotting, and PCR. Superior analytical, communication and management skills. Excellent communication and logical reasoning abilities. Flexibility in hours is expected for the care of the animals. Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with placing lab orders and acquisition of consumable/equipment quotes. Education in a biology field.
