This is not a supervisory role. Responsibilities Safely operate and maintain refuse trucks on the twin cities campus. Removes solid waste, recycling and organics from campus buildings. Operates and maintains roll off, rear-load and front load refuse trucks. Services compactor units, open top roll offs, dumpsters and other waste receptacles on campus leaving each location clean and free of debris. Required to perform light maintenance of equipment including greasing and washing of vehicles. Additionally: * Acts as lead worker for other MEO drivers as well as Delivery Service Drivers (DSD's) for Waste Recovery Services. * Assists and may provide work direction to MEO's and DSD's in the use of tools, equipment techniques and procedures. * Trains MEO's and DSD's in time card and work order processes. * In coordination with supervisors, gives assignments and work instructions to MEO's and DSD's. * In coordination with supervisors, adjusts work assignments as required due to employee absences, vacant positions, or other interruptions. * Provides new WRS drivers with campus orientation, including routes and pickup/dropoff locations. * Instructs and assists WRS drivers in work procedures, techniques, and in the use of new methods and processes. * Responsible for daily routine MEO duties. * Evaluates quality and quantity of daily work completed and communicates results to the supervisor. * Disseminates information from supervisor to WRS drivers. * Other duties as assigned. Work Environment- Work is performed 50% outdoors and 50% indoors (30% in vehicles). Temperature extremes are a regular part of this position while work is performed outdoors year round. Work areas can often contain dust and odors. Qualifications This job may be designated as essential. The employer retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position. Minimum qualifications- One year of experience with various types of shop work, equipment, and/or maintenance service. Ability to lead others in MEO work. Ability to read, write and communicate in English. High school graduate or equivalent. Valid commercial driver's license, minimum of a class B with air brake endorsement and no chargeable driving offenses. Minimum of three (3) years' experience consisting of the following: driving rear load refuse truck of 10 ton load capacity or more and one (1) year roll off truck experience. Basic computer skills. Ability and willingness to use a computer and smartphone/ tablet as a component of the work day. Perform complete pre- and post-operation inspection of the vehicle. Essential Qualification: Regular attendance is an essential qualification for this position. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Ability to consistently twist, bend, stoop, climb ladders, climb stairs, lift up to and over 75 pounds. Reach at and below shoulder height, squat, kneel, walk on uneven ground and carry 25- 75 pounds. Safely operate his or her heavy truck along designated route and to the disposal site; read route sheet, service each customer as identified on the route sheet or as assigned by management. Previous experience with power pallet jacks, forklifts, loaders and balers helpful. Previous recycle processing and metal separation helpful. Ability to interact with fellow employees, management, customers and the general public in a courteous, cooperative and professional manner. Maintain a positive public imagine, p sitive attitude, patience demeanor while performing service for our customers and the general public. Leading other MEO's and drivers.
