Position Purpose
The Supply Chain Planner is responsible for forecasting, planning and management of inventory needs for assigned categories. Responsibilities include 1) execute the supplier forecast and replenishment to ensure meeting instock goals 2) manage inventory to turn goals including establishing safety stock, lead times and minimizing excess, obsolete and aged inventory 3) recommend and maintain system settings, tools and processes to ensure inventory in right place, right time, right quantity 4) proactively communicate gaps and solves to ensure 1st time complete to customer 5) contribute cross-functionally to improve processes and work on projects including Value Stream teams, product changes and Total Cost of Ownership development (internal and external).
Primary Responsibilities
Forecasting and Replenishment
Plan, manage and execute product distribution over the planning horizon to ensure high service levels including PO releases and management
Plan and manage Supplier forecasts including proactive communication to Supplier and internal partners on forecasts, changes vs prior forecast and forecast accuracy (against PO releases)
Inventory Management
Identify and solve for critical shortages
Proactive communication with internal customers’ expectations of availability and downstream impacts
Managing relationships with suppliers to eliminate constraints and meet objectives
Minimize obsolete/aged inventory
Analyze, created, edit and track receiving of purchase orders for suppliers
Manage and inspect purchase orders to ensure on-time and complete fulfilment; inclusive of proactive management with Suppliers on-time shipping and delivery, fill rate and past due PO maintenance. Ensuring critical information is provided by Supplier and providing Supplier and internal team members with KPIs to inspect Supplier performance.
Provide monthly and quarterly inventory targets and manage procurement to achieve targeted inventory levels on both a cost and unit basis. Achieve desired corporate inventory turn targets
Support product development initiatives by ensuring all materials are available to fulfill launch requirements
Analytics
Recommend, execute and maintaining item PFEP ensuring system settings meet the category inventory objectives (leadtimes, turn, safety stock, etc)
Make recommendations to manager on appropriate safety stock levels leveraging business insights knowledge
Understand end to end Supply Chain processes from production to fulfillment inclusive of Sleep Number manufacturing and assembly to Home Delivery
Understand Supplier end to end processes from raw material procurement to finished good production as well as lead times associated
Understand Supplier capacity and constraints and build appropriate plans to ensure Sleep Number demand is met while managing to Sleep Number inventory goals; Partner with Sourcing Manager and Supply Chain Planning Manager to develop plan and access inventory and total cost impacts
Identifying Supplier critical risks and providing mitigation solution, escalating or seeking support as necessary: on-time deliveries, fill rate, capacity constraints, safety stock
Create smooth operational flow with all cross-functional partners
Maintain strong partnership with Suppliers to ensure deliveries and commits are fulfilled on time
Partner with Sourcing to resolve capacity constraints and ensure safety goals at Supplier are established and maintained
Partner and coordinate with internal teams to resolve inventory/payment discrepancies
Provide inventory projections and risk scenarios for all new, changing or sunsetting products
Provide communication, direction and support to internal teams as required
Continuous Process Improvements
Participate on Value Stream team
Evaluate existing processes for assigned categories and seek continual improvement opportunities to increase effectiveness and efficiency; Seek support from SMEs and cross-functional partners to evaluate opportunities for improvement
Position Requirements
Required: 3+ years of inventory planning and distribution and/or material planning/production scheduling experience
Required: Bachelor’s Degree
Preferred: Lean experience (PFEP)
Preferred: Oracle R12 experience, Advanced Supply Chain Planning
Advanced level of Excel required
Working knowledge of all MS Office programs
Knowledge of MRP/MRPII and various replenishment processes
High level of analytical ability required turning data into insights
High level of attention to detail
Demonstrate a strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skill set
Team oriented and ability to work in a highly cross-functional organization
Must be oriented for continuous improvement
Must have the ability to manage confidential and company proprietary information
Working Conditions
This position is based out of our Corporate HQ in Minneapolis, MN, with a hybrid in office schedule
Ability to work overtime/weekends
Minimal travel <10%
