Fairview Health Services System Advanced Practice Registered Nurse - Pediatric Critical Care in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Overview

We at M Health Fairview are currently hiring an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse to help drive nursing practice in our Pediatric Critical Care areas across the Fairview system.

The Advance Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) demonstrates experienced knowledge and skill in a specialty patient population, nursing practice specialty, service line, and across the continuum of care for the system. The APNL supervises work, processes, and people to design, develop, implement, and evaluate innovative, evidence-based interventions and standard processes to optimize patient safety, healthcare quality, cost-effectiveness, and improved patient and staff experience. The APNL generates and evaluates evidence for practice through partnership with nurses and other members of the inter-professional team and demonstrates professional leadership in work at the patient, micro-, meso-, and macrosystem levels.

Responsibilities Job Description

  • Patient Care and Evaluation of Clinical Practice

  • Evaluates care of the patient/population against professional standards and evidence.

  • Analyzes proposed practice initiatives to establish impacts on safety, effectiveness, and efficacy.

  • Designs, implements, and evaluates practice and outcomes.

  • Acquires and analyzes data from multiple sources to guide design of practice changes.

  • Uses the organization’s evidence-based practice model to identify the highest quality evidence and disseminates findings from evidence−based practice and research to improve healthcare outcomes.

  • Collaborates in the development of clear nursing guidelines, performance standards, policies, and procedures.

  • Demonstrates sensitivity to diverse organizational cultures and populations, including patients and providers.

  • Provides leadership and promotes the organizational professional governance model for the advancement and autonomy of nursing practice excellence in the organization.

  • Synthesizes assessment data, advanced knowledge, and experience, using critical thinking and clinical judgment to formulate differential diagnoses for clinical problems amenable to APRN intervention.

  • Designs and communicates strategies based on evidence, including advanced nursing therapies, to meet the needs of complex patients and groups of patients.

  • Prescribes nursing therapeutics, pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions, diagnostic measures, equipment, procedures, and treatments to meet the needs of patients, families, and groups, in accordance with professional preparation, institutional privileges, state and federal laws and nursing practice acts.

  • Consultation

  • Provides consultation on care delivery for complex patients/family situations.

  • Employs consultative, leadership skills within and among professional teams.

  • Creates an environment to improve capacity for learning and adaptation to change.

  • Provides consultation in development of patient/family education materials.

  • Communicates findings to essential team members and follows up with others to ensure closed loop communication.

  • Provides experienced consultation regarding nursing licensure and scope of practice.

  • System Leadership

  • Promotes competency and excellence in professional and clinical practice and collaborative working relationships across the continuum of care.

  • Participates in and/or leads the development and review of policies and procedures across the continuum of care.

  • Leads teams to improve and evaluate nursing sensitive indicators and other clinical quality metrics to improve clinical performance.

  • Performs assessments and designs plans to meet regulatory requirements related to nursing practice.

  • Performs and communicates system level assessments to identify variables that influence nursing practice and outcomes.

  • Collaboration

  • Builds effective teams by including key partners within and across units, departments, service lines, populations, sites, and organization and conducts routine intermittent collaborator assessments as part of the project management process.

  • Collaborates with and supports the work of nursing practice councils and teams to improve patient care and interdisciplinary workflows.

  • Uses effective strategies for leading, communicating, and facilitating changes in clinician practice and team behavior.

  • Demonstrate contributions and leadership for system improvements through intentional rounding, collaboration, and development at the micro-, meso-, and macro- levels.

  • Coaching

  • Supports the clinical and professional development of colleagues through role modeling, may serve as preceptor and mentor.

  • Participates in professional development and staff educational programs to support nurse continual competence.

  • Supports the Professional Practice Model through integration into daily work, role modeling, and mentorship of nurses across the system.

  • Research

  • Acquires, analyzes, plans, disseminates, and implements evidence-based practice into the clinical environment to promote standard processes.

  • Initiates, facilitates, and/or participates in research activities or quality improvement activities.

  • Ethical Decision-Making

  • Applies ethical principles when analyzing and assisting with concerns or issues.

Qualifications

Required

Education

  • Master’s degree in Nursing

Experience

  • 3 or more years of nursing experience

License/Certification/Registration

  • Current MN RN License

  • Licensed in Minnesota as an Advanced Practice RN (CNS, NP, CRNA, CNM)

  • BLS certification

Preferred

Education

  • Doctor of Nursing Practice or PhD in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Science

Experience

  • 6 or more years Nursing experience

  • 1 year or more APRN experience

License/Certification/Registration
