Dorsey & Whitney Tax Accountant in Minneapolis, Minnesota

We are seeking a Tax Accountant to join our growing Finance team. The Tax Accountant has a solid understanding of all tax matters for the Firm and its partners. This role will serve as liaison with our external tax accountants on the Firm s annual tax returns and other tax issues and works directly with partners on their related inquiries. You will participate in the filing of various taxes across multiple jurisdictions including sales and use tax, occupational tax and commercial rent tax. Responsibilities also include reconciliation of general ledger accounts, reviewing AP vouchers for correct tax coding and participating in month-end close. This is a hybrid position in our Minneapolis office. In this role, you will: Participate in the annual tax return for the US, Canada, Hong Kong and London by preparing schedules and answering inquiries from the CPA firm. Distribute K1s to the partners and answer associated inquiries. Also manage the gathering and tracking of Canada tax organizers, California waivers and other tax forms needed to complete tax filings. Understand various tax filing options of group and pass-through entity returns and the options that partners are allowed to elect in various states. Manage the tax deduction process from partner distributions; gather information on individual tax elections and prepare calculations. Reconcile the deductions to the Firm s tax return and GL accounts. Prepare invoices for any tax amounts due, or refunds owed, to partners who left the firm. Follow-up with former partners as necessary. Prepare and file recurring tax payments for the Firm. Serve as point of contact for partners with questions on taxes and tax deductions withheld from distributions. Participate in sales and use tax filings including Canadian GST/PST filings. Respond to tax inquiries from the IRS, CRA and other state and local tax authorities. Participate in tax audits. Participate in month-end close. Reconcile GL Accounts and assist in other finance duties. May be requested to perform other duties not listed above.
