The lab uses a combination of biochemical, behavioral, and neuroimaging approaches to understand how neuropeptide receptors signal and how this signaling drives motivated behavior. 60% Laboratory Research: The successful candidate will work closely with lab members and the principal investigator to execute a variety of duties related to performing research experiments in cultured cells and with mice. These duties include maintaining mammalian cells in culture, conducting biochemicals assays, participating in experimental design, analyzing data and reviewing relevant literature. Additional responsibilities may include the handling of mice, mouse husbandry, mouse genotyping and behavioral testing. The candidate may also be responsible for perfusions, tissue processing, tissue imaging, and image analysis. Additional responsibilities include maintaining detailed and organized experimental records, managing data, and participating in data analysis, visualization, and presentation. 40% Laboratory Research Support: The candidate will be responsible for maintaining an adequate supply of common laboratory reagents and consumables, assisting in equipment maintenance, cleaning and sterilizing supplies, developing standard operating procedures, assisting with IACUC and IBC protocols, maintaining compliance with safety procedures (e.g., eye wash and cold room maintenance), participating in laboratory housekeeping and organization, and assisting with ordering. Qualifications Required Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. At least two years of college-level coursework focused on neuroscience, biology, psychology, biochemistry, or a related field. Willingness to with rodents in a research environment. Preferred Qualifications: Lab experience is preferred but not required. Relevant lab experiences include but are not limited to: behavioral assessments in rodents, aseptic surgery, transgenic mouse colony management, cell culture, BRET-based assays, SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, image analysis, and laboratory management. About the Department The Department of Pharmacology at the University of Minnesota is one of six basic science departments in the Medical School.
