JOB TITLE: ACTIVE 6 COACH
Status: part-time, Y job grade 6
Wage: $18.49/hr
Hours: 10-15/week, must be available during after school hours
Reports to: Director of Program & Member Services
Probation: Subject to a 12-month introductory (probationary) period
POSITION SUMMARY:The YMCA’s Active 6 program plays an important role in the community, helping 6th graders to form healthy habits they can sustain as they age. Active 6 provides all 6th graders in Missoula County with a free membership to the YMCA. Additionally, Active 6 provides structured after school programming on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays aimed at getting kids moving with activities like weightlifting, running, and group games. As the Active 6 Coach, role modeling physical activity through direct participation alongside 6th graders is key. The Active 6 Coach also leads “Snacktivity”, a guided group discussion on health topics while providing participants with a healthy snack. The Active 6 Coach connects with local schools to provide information, plan structured activities, recruits & trains UM volunteers to assist with Active 6 programming, and with the oversite of their supervisor adjusts the program as needed while continuing to engage Missoula 6th graders in healthy habit-forming activities. The Active 6 Coach must be able to thrive in an environment with the unique challenges of a non-profit, community service organization and have the flexibility to work in a constantly changing environment. Works with general supervision.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
Required – High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred – Secondary education classes in sports or physical fitness related subjects
Experience
Required – Experience with leading volunteers or instructing/coaching youth
Required – Working with children
Required – Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new office software
Required - Certification in CPR and First Aid – can be obtained at the YMCA
