JOB OVERVIEW:

A Procurement Manager is responsible for maintaining positive relationships with suppliers, directly owning procurement activity for key relationships, coordinating with internal teams regarding their supply needs, and overseeing the procurement team in their daily activities. They support, plan, prioritize, and implement global contracting and procurement strategies to increase operational efficiency and profitability. They have excellent leadership abilities, a continuous improvement approach to all procurement activities, and the ability to negotiate and execute cost-effective sourcing agreements that align with the VDF corporate strategy.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead, manage and invest in the development of your team members

Support, prioritize, and execute category purchasing strategies

Track and analyze pricing, specification alignment, and delivery trends to drive continuous improvement through cross functional collaboration with quality, finance, sales, scheduling, operations, and product line.

Directly own the procurement activities for key supplier relationships

Manage the daily purchasing activities of your team

Cost Savings

  • Drive cost savings & support efficient inventory utilization
  • Control spend and build a culture of long-term saving on procurement cost
  • Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness

Supplier Relationships

  • Managing supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, prices, timelines, etc.
  • Develop & maintain supplier database, purchase records, and related documentation
  • Cultivate working relationships with new and potential suppliers to drive the process of acquiring new materials.

Market Intelligence

  • Perform risk management for supply contracts and agreements
  • Provide regular market updates to key stakeholders
  • Anticipate unfavorable events through analysis of data and prepare risk mitigation strategies

Quality

  • Ensure that all procured items meet the required quality standards and specifications
  • Resolve vendor disputes and work towards corrective actions with suppliers related to purchasing activities.
  • Ensure that all contracts and associated suppliers are compliant to corporate policy.
  • Ensure suppliers agree to specifications generated for approved materials

Travel is required - both domestically and internationally

JOB EXPERIENCE:

5+ years of procurement experience in agriculture/food industry or relevant area required

3+ years of supervisory and management experience preferred

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Proven leadership skills with a passion for leading and developing teams.

Polished and professional communication skills.

Strong business acumen

Analytical/tactical & strategic thinker with a continuous improvement mindset

Exceptional problem solving, organizational, planning, and prioritization skills

Deep knowledge of inventory and supply chain management

Strong critical thinking and negotiation skills

Risk management and solution focused mindset

Proficiency in Microsoft Office

EDUCATION:

Bachelor\'s degree in supply chain, Operations, Business Management, or closely related field, or equivalent work experi nce.

WORKING EXPECTATIONS:

Expected to be onsite a minimum of 3 days per week when not traveling

Willing to travel both domestically and internationally as required, typically once every 2-3 months, to support supplier visits and attend relevant tradeshows
