Summary
The Payroll Manager oversees the preparation, distribution, and reporting processes of multiple companies in multiple locations (national and international) within the Baker Family of Companies. Ensures calculation of wages, overtime, child support and garnishments. Ensures all payroll processing complies with federal, state, and international laws and payments are disbursed timely and appropriately.
Roles and Responsibilities
The Payroll Manager will possess competency in the following areas in order to perform his/her role in a safe, productive, and effective manner. Oversees executive payroll function by managing the payroll database, reviewing payments for accuracy, ensuring proper and efficient flow of direct deposits
Possesses working knowledge of multi state and local payroll taxes, including set up, calculation, and notice resolution
Establishes, reviews, and verifies payroll cycles
Oversees request for wage verifications, unemployment
Oversees the per diem and fuel card programs as well as Concur expenses
Responsible for but not limited to the following payroll duties: applications of all applicable taxes for city, state, and federal withholding, oversees the process of W-2 forms at year end by a 3rd party company, disbursements of companywide payroll deductions, state and federal unemployment disbursements, payments of city, state and federal withholding, 401k and the 125 Cafeteria Plan, health benefit deductions and child support and garnishments
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Baker’s policies and all applicable laws
Provides guidance, direction, coaching, and support to direct reports to maximize individual and overall department performance
Prepares special reports for senior management
Works closely with HR, Finance, and other departments to ensure payroll accuracy and address any payroll-related matters
Updates and document procedures as warranted
In-depth understanding of payroll practices, laws, and regulations
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; or four to six years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Must possess strong customer service skills and problem-solving abilities
Proficiency in Microsoft software programs; Vista and/or Paycor experience preferred
Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) Preferred
Limited travel required

Ability to calculate mathematical figures such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, and proportions to practical situations
Ability to present information, and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and co-workers
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
