SUMMARY

The Outdoor Pursuits Assistant Manager will be responsible for supporting the Director and Assistant Director of Outdoor Pursuits in the management of Compass Sports, and ensuring the facilities provide an exceptional guest and associate experience within Montage standards. This role will also be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the rental equipment process, engaging in the continued evaluation and enhancement of the Compass Sports Experience, following all safety protocols, and the ongoing training and coaching of all Compass Sports associates.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Collaborate with the Manager of Outdoor Pursuits to create and enhance programming that is well received, well attended, and financially sound and profitable

  • Train associates on Outdoor programs including but not limited to: skiing/snowboarding, tuning and maintenance of rental equipment, shooting equipment, guiding, biking and fishing so they are knowledgeable on the offerings and can provide best in class customer service.

  • Lead guided wildlife tours, snowshoe excursions, national park tours, hiking, biking and fishing expeditions

  • Possess knowledge of tubing hill operations and surface lifts

  • Create and manage associate schedules

  • Assist with Payroll duties

  • Oversee opening and closing procedures while ensuring departmental standards for cleanliness and organization are being met

  • Handle guest complaints in a professional manner

  • Serve as a resource for ski/snowboard rental equipment, local mountain conditions, weather, ski trails, lift access points, and dining options on property and around the mountain

  • Forecast skier and activity counts for group and leisure business

  • Engage with guests and associates; orchestrate a well-crafted and continuous training opportunities for Compass Sports

  • Oversee and maintain a consistent feedback mechanism (i.e. comment cards, post-event surveys) to track and improve upon the guest experience

  • Ensure that all facilities and gear are well maintained and that appropriate preventive maintenance practices are in place

  • Maintain accurate records, detail training protocols, and ensure safety measures are in place (for liability protocols)

  • Evaluate systems and standard operating procedures in conjunction with Director of Outdoor Pursuits

  • Ensure daily lineups take place and that all associates are well informed on policies, company initiatives, and personalized service initiatives

  • Perform other duties as assigned

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in Parks, Recreation or Tourism or related field preferred

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in an outdoor/recreation role in a mountain environment

  • Minimum of 2 years’ supervisory experience

  • Previous hospitality experience preferred, preferably in a luxury environment

  • Knowledge of ski/outdoor rental process, general maintenance of outdoor equipment

  • Must be able to pass binding indemnification test(s) from all ski manufacturers

  • Ability to learn liability record keeping practices

  • Strong passion for the outdoors, and proven track record for guiding outdoor activities

  • Excellent customer service; experience handling guest concerns in a timely manner

  • Vast array of knowledge about recreational activities applicable to the area preferred

  • Highly focused on safety awareness in the outdoors; ability to evaluate and prioritize in critical situations

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; fluency in English

  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office applications

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Most tasks are performed outdoors in variable weather conditions, including hot, cold, windy and wet weather. Temperature can be extreme but is usually moderate. Position requires walking, standing, and giving direction; must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours in length. Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill cleaning tasks. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis. Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity. Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with members, supervisors and subordinates.
