Montgomery City-County Personnel Department Auto Mechanic in Montgomery, Alabama

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this position exists is to provide skilled mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of automotive and light truck vehicles. This position requires a high degree of technical ability related to engine maintenance, major rebuilding, and problem diagnosis and repair. Employees exercise independent judgment as to the method of repair after receiving written or oral instructions concerning the operating condition of the vehicles. The essential functions of this position are: runs preventative maintenance checks on automotive and light trucks, performs general service and repair of automotive and light trucks, and performs administrative tasks as needed to service and repair vehicles. Incumbents receive supervision from the master mechanic or superintendent.

Minimum Qualifications

Three (3) years of experience within the past five (5) years as an automotive mechanic with at least one (1) year as an independent lead mechanic OR a diploma/certificate in automotive mechanics and one year of experience as an independent lead mechanic.

NOTE:Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
