Delta Montrose Electric Association Fiber Technician, Splicer I in Montrose, Colorado

POSITION: Fiber Technician, Splicer I

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Install aerial and underground fiber optic cable. Complete equipment installation and cabling as instructed by Broadband Field Operations Manager. Including but not limited to: complete fusion splicing of various types and sizes of fiber optic cable including: ADSS single mode and stranded single mode, OSP fiber management and installation. Performs splicing rearrangements on existing facilities in buried, underground, aerial and building work locations, preparation/construction of splice cases and pedestals. Review, interpret, and work with various maps, drawings and blueprints and testing documents.

REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or equivalent required. Two years' experience in the telecommunication industry or related technical field is required. One year experience cabling various electronic components (e.g., modems, routers, TVs) required. One year of current, verifiable experience in fusion splicing, using fiber optic test gear, and performing optical continuity and conformance testing strongly preferred. Knowledge of the universal communications color codes as it relates to 12 and 24 tube count fiber optics and standard datacomm (copper). Class A or B CDL or ability to obtain within one year of employment strongly preferred. Proficient at working at heights and/or working off a ladder highly preferred. Proven excellent customer service skills related to installing digital TV, high-speed internet and voice services is required. Advanced computer literacy required, including demonstrated knowledge of current computer operating systems.

WAGE: $34.43 per hour.

SHIFT: Full time.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Regular, predictable attendance is required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in inclement weather conditions. Close to 100% of the work is performed outside of an office setting, either in an outdoor setting or in subscriber premises. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
