GENERAL SUMMARY:

This position will be responsible for providing guidance, direction and leadership to the sites safety process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Investigate all near misses, first aid cases,recordables, lost day injuries, and vehicular accidents within 24 hours, as well as track closure on all recommendations.
  • Track injury trends and develop action plans to address identified accident trends.
  • Keep the management team informed of any safety and health related issues and/or concerns identified within your respective scope of responsibility.
  • Interact daily with the Occupational Health Nurse(s) in a way that builds a team atmosphere within the safety and medical areas of the site.
  • Spend time being visible in the processing plant and other site locations.
  • Conduct observations and inspections in accordance with the Safety Leadership and Accountability Program.
  • Provide the Corporate Safety Department with the sites monthly safety performance numbers by the deadline dates.
  • Be actively involved in the sites Workers Compensation program by attending regularly scheduled meetings, providing supporting documentation for claims in litigation, and assist the Occupational Health Nurse/Third Party Administrator in effectively managing all open claims.
  • Provide safety training support to the organization.
  • Be the sites liaison when outside agencies come on-site to conduct annual assessments (i.e., insurance carrier, local fire department, OSHA, EPA, etc.)
  • In coordination with the Refrigeration Manager, implement sites Process Safety Management (PSM) Program under the direction of the Corporate PSM Director.
  • Intimately be involved with local medical community in a fashion that all medical vendors understand the companys philosophy on OSHA recordkeeping and return to work programs.
  • Assist the Area Safety and Health Director in providing Management, Supervisors and employees with information on all government safety regulations and changes to procedures that have an impact on their work environment and jobs.

BASIC SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Extensive knowledge in the areas of Workers Compensation, OSHA, DOT, etc. is essential.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Bi-lingual capabilities would be a plus.
  • Must be able to work assigned hours/days - including occasional weekends - as required.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors/Mastersdegree in Safety Engineering/Management or related field (Candidates with five or more years of industrial experience may be given preference in the selection process) or equivalent experience.
  • Professional certification is a plus.
