Roush Yates Engines Quality Engineer in Mooresville, North Carolina

Roush Yates Manufacturing Solutions is a precision CNC parts manufacturing organization with expertise in multi-axis machining of metal parts with complex geometries. We produce machined parts for the automotive, aerospace, military and industrial industries. Our manufacturing and quality management systems are dedicated to exceeding our customer's expectations through the continuous improvement of our processes, procedures and through the use of state-of-the-art technologies.

We are searching for a Quality Engineer who will be responsible for review and flow-down of product quality requirements throughout the organization, by evaluating inspection needs during quoting, defining the inspection requirements during the planning stages, monitoring in-process data, revising inspection plans and reporting on the stability of the systems.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the quoting process by reviewing customer quality documents, evaluating prints against the company's inspection capabilities, and providing estimated inspection times for inspection processes as well as any inspection costs (gaging purchases, fixturing needs, etc.).
  • Review purchase orders for quality requirements and communicate to appropriate parties regarding those requirements.
  • Review customer quality requirements and develop inspection plan to meet those requirements by working with quality inspectors and production department.
  • Determine and define inspection steps required to ensure final product quality, including, but not limited to, raw material inspection, outsource and receiving inspections, first-piece Inspections, In-process checks, in-process inspections, outside-process inspections, final inspection requirements and First Article Inspection Reports (FAI/FAIR) or Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) requirements.
  • Determine gaging required for each inspection, and ensure it is available at the time of production.
  • When necessary, create documentation templates required for FAI or PPAP, for use in Quality.
  • Communicate clearly, consistently, and in a timely manner with the customer regarding inspection plans, FAI and PPAP.
  • Utilize statistics to analyze in-process inspection data to monitor effectiveness of inspection plan and modify as needed.
  • Participate in resolution of customer and supplier quality issues resulting from MRB and other product nonconformance.
  • Prepare and execute FMEA and APQP/PPAP and other quality control and analysis plans.
  • Participation in Lean, 5S and Six Sigma activities for the purpose of preventative actions and continuous improvement activities.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in manufacturing, metrology, mechanical engineering, or related technical field.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft products. Experience with Microsoft Access desired.
  • Experience writing control plans, process FMEA's, and process flow diagrams
  • Familiarity with common inspection methods.
  • Ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing in a CNC/machine shop environment, metrology, engineering or related technical role.
  • In depth understanding of GDandT.
  • Working knowledge of different types of gaging and measurement methods.
  • Familiarity with CMM inspection methodology preferred.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Calibration requirements.
  • Experience with material review board (MRB) and corrective action processes.
  • Experience with ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 quality systems and documentation desired.

Preferred but not required

  • Experience programming Zeiss or Hexagon coordinate measurement machines
  • Writing work instructions
  • Familiarity with CAD software
  • Knowledge of and interpreting capability and gage RandR studies

  • Computer (all Microsoft Office Programs)
  • Inspection Equipment (Visual, Attr bute, Variable and/or DCC), as necessary to define inspection plans

In compliance with RYMS regulatory requirements, applicants must meet the following vision requirements, utilizing corrective lens as needed: Near Vision - Snellen 14/18, (20/25), Jaeger 2 at not less than 12 inches, Color Vision.
