This position exists to improve air quality statewide from neighborhood sources of air pollution by implementing pollution prevention best practices, financial assistance, technical assistance, outreach, education, partnerships, and community engagement programs. The primary focus of this position is to organize the communication and activities with our Clean Air Minnesota (CAM) program and its partners. Included in these efforts will also be the coordination of internal Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) activities related to neighborhood sources of air pollution which includes statewide planning for nonpoint air pollution reduction. Secondary focus is managing implementation of wood smoke reduction program assistance activities. This position also leads the unit’s efforts in ensuring that areas of concern for environmental justice are targeted with our programs related to sustainability and pollution reduction. This includes working with the indigenous tribes and their environmental representatives to encourage collaborative efforts to provide emission reductions on tribal lands.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a field of study related to environmental protection, sustainability, public policy, a similar scientific area and one year of environmental protection, sustainability, or related professional experience
OR
Two years of professional experience in environmental protection, sustainability, a similar area.
Ability to:
Communicate effectively.
Make decisions on complex and controversial issues related to day-to-day program operations.
Translate technical information, rules and regulations to language understandable by a non-technical audience.
Maintain confidential or restricted information.

Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated understanding of working with a diverse group of stakeholders, including groups and people within the state government as well as external parties.
Experience in environmental program design and implementation.
Demonstrated understanding of Minnesota’s overall air quality.
Demonstrated experience in being a self-starter and working independently.
Demonstrated understanding of broad sustainability, environmental and land use issues.
Ability to understand and analyze related data and being able to use that data in a formal report.
Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with representatives of government agencies, the regulated community, and the general public, and to generate consensus on complex issues.
Effective public presentation skills; ability to write technical reports and effectively communicate technical concepts in person and in writing.
Physical Requirements
Requires occasionally moving such articles as file boxes and heavy hand tools or heavier materials with help from others and/or moving light objects frequently. A job is in this category may require maintaining a stationary position to a significant degree or may involve a certain amount of moving necessary in carrying out job duties.
Additional Requirements
A driver’s license is an essential function of this position. This requires possession of an unrestricted Class D Driver’s License. The job offer is contingent on confirmation of a valid driver’s license AND a satisfactory DLR check.
Requires a Class D driver´s License: a single unit vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of less than 26,000 pounds. This is a basic driver’s license. Operators may also tow vehicles/trailers as long as the gross combination weight does not exceed 26,000 pounds.
