West Virginia University Part-time Lifeguard - Campus Recreation in Morgantown, West Virginia

Description West Virginia University Division of Campus Recreation is currently accepting applications for Temporary Part-Time Summer Lifeguard. About the Opportunity: As a Temporary Part-Time Summer Lifeguard, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of the pool facility and its patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies. This position will report to the Coordinator for Aquatic Operations and Programming. Pay Grade: PG7 Assignment Length: Approximately 4.5 months What you'll do: Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the aquatic facility. Work as a team to identify potential hazards and prevent injuries and accidents in and out of the water; respond quickly, decisively, and appropriately to emergencies. Provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical service by administering first aid, rescue breathing, and CPR. Maintain a high standard of customer service Participate in regular in-service training sessions. Assist in cleaning and maintaining the pool and related areas. Perform opening / closing procedures.

Qualifications High School Diploma or GED preferred 0-6 months of related experience. Pass a skill screening by swimming 300 yards, retrieve a 10 lb. brick from the bottom of the pool, and tread water for 2 minutes using only legs. Ability and willingness to pass a lifeguard certification course or be certified in Lifeguarding with CPR / AED for Professional Rescuer & First Aid Certified through the American Red Cross. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees. Self-motivated with the ability to work without supervision. Ability to work flexible hours with evening and weekend work required. Successful completion of criminal background check.
