Professional Rank and Salary Range: SL-2; $65,000 - $70,000

Brief Description of Duties:

SUNY Morrisville is seeking a Building Automation & Emergency Management Systems Supervisor.

This position is primarily responsible for our Building Automation System (BAS), Life Safety / Emergency Management Equipment and Support Infrastructure, and other duties as assigned, i.e., BAS administration and integration lead on existing and new / future projects, Fire Suppression, Fire Alarms, Generators, Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC), Security - door access, and duties as assigned.

For note, our BAS software, fire suppression, fire alarms, generators, HVAC equipment, and door access systems are supported with outside vendors, and you will manage these vendors for major repairs while some projects and other tasks are completed in house across multiple disciplines with the new incumbent at the lead.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • You will serve as a subject matter expert on all topics related to building automation systems from the field-control level to final application.

  • Point of contact for outside vendors

  • Provide HVAC technical and operational support.

  • Analyze daily system activity and troubleshoot deficiencies, point to point verification, sequence of operations, and ultimately root cause with sustainable solutions.

  • Provide a daily report to provide insight into issues addressed and future follow up required.

  • Assigns staff to each project providing oral instructions, blueprints, or sketches, and interprets specifications and blueprints as required.

  • Meets with supervisors representing other trades involved in the project to coordinate activities and schedule work to be performed to ensure that the work continues and will be completed on schedule.

  • Observes work in progress to ensure that the project will be completed on schedule and according to plan.

  • Inspects work and work products during installation and when completed for conformity to specifications or codes.

  • Keeps written records of work performed and accounts for labor and materials used.

  • Provide hands-on support and executes minor to intermediate repairs, e.g., carbon monoxide detector replacement, fire alarm panel power supply replacement, door access controller change, door access schedule change.

  • Originate opportunities for improvement and present solutions to address.

  • Provide technical review of new project submittals, control logic, applications, and drawings to make recommendations consistent with consideration for current system compatibility and efficacy, energy conservation, and sustainability goals.

  • Work in cooperation with Design & Construction and Information Technology to provide insight and support and vice versa.

  • Responsible for commissioning, programming, setting up graphics, communications link, end to end testing, troubleshooting, and servicing on original projects and support or oversight on assigned outside projects.

  • Maintain fastidious records for BAS database, software, licenses, and maintain a repository of system backups.

  • Create standard work for each system and maintain a depository of information for reference and proper quantity of physical inventory for hardware, devices, and other requirements.

  • Periodically prepares standard written evaluations of the work performance of subordinate staff.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in building automation, instrumentation and controls, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, electronics engineering, engineering technology, computer programming, facilities/construction, or closely related field.

  • 2 years' experience in commissioning building automation systems for new and existing buildings.

  • When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with analyzing and trouble-shooting multi-building and potentially unique systems, identifying opportunities for improvement, and identifying and developing projects for continuous improvement.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, with knowledge of Microsoft Projects and Acrobat Adobe DC.

  • Strong organizational skills
