Professional Rank and Salary Range: SL-4; $65,000 - $73,000

Duration: Calendar Year (this position follows a 12-month schedule)

Brief Description of Duties:

We are seeking a dynamic and visionary individual to join our campus as an instructional specialist and serve as Director for the Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence (CAF-). This candidate will be the founding director to initiate a new faculty focused Center to motivate innovation and instructional creativity.

The ideal candidate is responsible for providing visionary leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight to promote the professional development and academic success of faculty members. The Director will work collaboratively with faculty, administration, and staff to design and implement innovative pedagogies, enhance teaching, and support program and course development.

This role combines expertise in instructional design and system administration, with a commitment to promoting transformative pedagogy and supporting faculty in creating inclusive and engaging learning environments.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Support and collaborate with faculty members and subject matter experts to design, develop, and evaluate transformative course materials and instructional resources that promote critical thinking, equity, and social justice.

  • Provide consultation and support to faculty in integrating innovative pedagogical approaches into their teaching practices, including high-impact, active learning strategies, collaborative learning techniques, and experiential learning opportunities.

  • Lead workshops, training sessions, and seminars on high-impact pedagogy, culturally responsive teaching, and inclusive classroom practices, with a focus on fostering student agency empowerment, and using best practices in teaching and learning.

  • Develop and maintain resources, guides, and tutorials to support faculty in creating accessible and inclusive learning experiences for all students, including those from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

  • Stay abreast of emerging trends and research in instructional design, high-impact pedagogy, and share knowledge and insights with faculty and colleagues.

  • Collaborate across campus to identify and address faculty development needs and priorities related to teaching and learning, retention, persistence, and accessibility.

  • Assist in the assessment and evaluation of faculty professional development initiatives to ensure effective and impactful teaching and student learning outcomes.

  • Serve as a liaison with the Policy Committee and the Electronic and Information Technology (EIT) committee with an aim of promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in teaching and learning across all modalities to support of our strategic plan

  • Develop and articulate a sharp vision and strategic plan for CAF- that aligns with the college's mission and vision.

  • Track online teaching certification, competencies, and LMS use. Establish metrics and conduct assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of CAF- initiatives.

  • Support the semester opening and closing of courses in the LMS, deploy course/faculty evaluations, archive data and evaluation reports, disseminate accordingly, and assist faculty in textbook or instructional tool implementation in individual courses.

  • Collaborate in a supportive shared governance approach to support faculty mentorship, dynamic syllabus design, and the use of innovative technological tools.

  • Serve on committees both on campus and with the greater SUNY system and Technology sector.

  • Promote and publicize CAF- programs and services to maximize faculty engagement

    Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in instructional design, educational technology, transformative pedagogy, or a related field.

  • 4+ years of instructional design, faculty development, or a related role in higher education, with a focus on transformative pedagogy

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree or higher

  • 5+ years of experience as mentioned above

  • Strong understanding of transformative pedagogical frameworks, critical pedagogy, and inclusive teaching practices.

  • Proficiency in using instructional design software, learning management systems as a system administrator (LMS- preferably Brightspace), multimedia authoring tools, and other educational technologies.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in teaching and learning.

  • Experience with online teaching and learning, hybrid course design, hyflex, and accessibility standards.
