rrPosition Summary:

rThe Alcohol & Other Drugs Coordinator works to implement and sustain campus-wide health promotion practices to create an environment that promotes student success and personal development. The focus of this position is to develop, coordinate, deliver and evaluate comprehensive universal, targeted and individual alcohol and other drug prevention (and other health topics as assigned, including but not limited to sexual health, healthy relationships and general wellbeing) strategies and services to the U of I student population. The coordinator works as a collaborative team member within the department and collaborates with key stakeholders on and off-campus to support a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to health for students and integrates ACHA Standards of Practice for Health Promotion in Higher Education.

rrMinimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in health promotion, health policy, health education, public health, social work or psychology

{=html} <!-- --> - Planning, implementing and facilitating health education workshops and/or training programs in a diverse community - Utilizing computer applications to produce presentations, correspondence and reports - Implementing prevention strategies - Developing program goals and objectives

rrPreferred Qualifications:

r

  • One year of experience in related health promotion field preferably in a higher education environment
  • Advanced certification such as Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES), or Certified in Public Health (CPH), Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) or certification eligible
  • Demonstrated commitment to health education initiatives
  • Knowledge of research related to alcohol and other drug evidence-based practices within a college setting; harm reduction approach and motivational interviewing
  • Experience developing and implementing alcohol and other drug prevention initiatives
  • Experience taking initiative and demonstrating independent planning, organizing, coordinating and performing work in various situations where numerous demands are involved
  • Ability to write concise reports and/or grant proposals
  • Experience gathering, assembling, correlating and analyzing data
  • Experience utilizing environmental health promotion strategies
  • Experience supervising and mentoring undergraduate or graduate students
  • Experience establishing and maintaining good working relationships with stakeholders and collaborators
  • Good knowledge of ACHA Standards of Practice for Health Promotion in Higher Education (SPHPHE) and fundamental principles of student development theories and models
