Caterpillar Inc. seeks Senior Engineer – Design at its facility located at 2427 E Engine Dr, Chillicothe, IL 61523. Direct and participate in the design and development of new product concepts and complex engineering projects for release to production in a manner to ensure products provide superior performance, durability, quality, and serviceability. Conceive and provide practical product design applications using complex technical principles. Emphasis of this position is on creating concepts and directing the design and development of complex engineering projects. Prepare concept, design, development, and feasibility studies of complex engineering projects. Delegate portions of the project to other engineers and leads and coordinate the design, analysis, and computer simulation effort. Prepare development plans and be responsible for meeting scheduled dates. Act as the development team leader by interacting with plant locations and various engineering departments. Conduct technical evaluations of major systems on competitive products. Coordinate product tests with prove design and prototype build up and test areas. Provide guidance to other engineers responsible for portions of the product project to ensure development schedules are met. Evaluate, define, and resolve product knowledge to play the leadership role in the problem resolution process when interfacing with test and evaluation, service, plant personnel, suppliers, and consultants. Work with manufacturability teams resolving problems with manufacturing and statistical process controls. Keep abreast of latest technological advancements and prepare design concepts and develop unique product design features the company often patents to gain competitive advantage travels worldwide to suppliers, production plants, dealerships, customer job sites, and field test locations related to the development of engineering projects and problem resolution. REQS: This position requires a master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering or a related field. 6 Years of engineering experience in component design & validation or related occupation. Additionally, the applicant must have 3 years of employment experience with: (1) Component integration; (2) Design control experience and NPI and APQP process; (3) FMEA development and execution; (4) FEA and vibration analysis techniques; and (5) CPI or NPI issue resolution. Travel: 10-15% Domestic and international travel. Telecommuting: 2 days/week.
