Job Description

TITLE:Bus Driver

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Demonstrates aptitude or competency for assigned responsibilities.
  2. Ability to work effectively with groups to accomplish district goals.
  3. Possess valid CDL and School Bus Driver's License
  4. Has thorough knowledge of laws and regulations which govern the operation of buses.
  5. Pass annual physical.
  6. Pass pre-employment drug and alcohol tests.
  7. Pass random drug and alcohol tests.

REPORTS TO:Superintendent of Schools and works cooperatively with building principals, secretaries and teachers.

JOB GOAL:To provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the district's curriculum and program of extracurricular activities.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Obeys all traffic laws.
  2. Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
  3. Effectively enforces bus conduct rules and maintains good discipline when students are on the bus.
  4. Ensures all students are seated when the bus is in motion.
  5. Reports discipline incidents to the proper persons of authority.
  6. Keeps inside of bus clean.
  7. Washes bus as needed when weather permits.
  8. Maintains assigned schedule.
  9. Performs pre-tip safety inspections.
  10. Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
  11. Discharges students only at authorized stops and notifies the superintendent's office of any exceptions.
  12. Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips.
  13. Transports only authorized students.
  14. Reports all accidents and completes required reports.
  15. Enforces regulations against smoking and eating on the bus.
  16. Attends meetings called by the superintendent for the purpose of receiving instructions relating to the bus transportation system.
  17. Attends in-service classes as required.
  18. Follows district plan for dealing with emergency situations.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Schedule and salary set by Board of Directors.

EVALUATION:

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions in board policy and master contract.
