Talen Energy Coal Equipment Operator II in Mount Wolf, Pennsylvania

Brunner Island power plant in York Haven Pennsylvania has opportunities for position Coal Equipment Operator Level II.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Determines amount of coal to be placed in bunkers and informs proper associate.

  • Observes continuous travel of material; recognizes and removes foreign material and prevents blocking of conveyor.

  • Regulates the flow of coal into proper bunkers by operating such regulating equipment as: conveyors, regulator gates, stacker belts, tripper, crushers, screens, magnetic pulleys and other auxiliary equipment.

  • Examines and checks conveyor belt alignment, idlers and belt pulleys.

  • Keeps necessary records, such as: name of shipper, car number, weight and whether coal is stored or used immediately.

  • Makes necessary adjustments and maintains equipment in service.

  • Reports need for, and assists with, major repair work.

  • Cleans and lubricates conveyor and regulating equipment, such as: belt scrappers, conveyor motors, drive shaft bearings, conveyor belt rollers, vibrator shaker screens, speed switches, etc.

  • Records the weight of various types of fuel and other necessary data and assists in keeping required tests, such as scale tests.

  • Makes up trains in accordance with existing local practice.

  • Fuels, lubricates and keeps equipment clean.

  • Assists in cleaning, lubrication and running repairs to equipment.

  • Assists in spotting cars in thaw shed or on dumper when needed.

  • Directs train crew or yard crew as to kind and amount of fuel needed.

  • Operates car shake-out by means of electric controls when required.

  • Operates small dozer on grizzly to break up frozen chunks of coal and/or to clean grizzly off of buildup of coal.

  • Operates and monitors dust suppression system when dumping cars.

  • Keeps record of rail cars received and dumped.

  • Operates bulldozers, hydroseeders and similar equipment.

  • Perform janitor work in yard service building.

  • Performs automatic or manual coal sampling at the car dumper and tripper floor.

  • As directed, samples composites, prepares transmittals, labels and documents for car samples.

  • Performs Coal Equipment Operator I and other related duties as assigned or as necessary.

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to meet medical screening requirements to pass respirator fit and use.

  • Sufficient manual skill and dexterity to operate equipment and make minor adjustments to keep equipment operating properly.

  • Intelligence, adequate to observe conditions, learn methods and follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Where applicable, adequate experience in the operation of moving equipment and working knowledge of the equipment, including lubrication and maintenance procedures.

  • As required, be able to obtain a current Pennsylvania Class II operator's license.

  • Initiative and dependability.

  • Alertness in observation of hazards and prevention of accidents.

  • Thorough knowledge of safety rules applicable to work performed.

  • Cooperation with associates.

  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions when needed.

  • Successful completion of Skilled Trades selection test.
