Google Senior Staff Silicon Engineer in Mountain View, California

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 10 years of experience with industry-standard tools, languages and methodologies relevant to the development of silicon-based integrated circuits (ICs) and chips.

  • 7 years of experience in hardware engineering, with a focus on chip design and architecture for machine learning applications.

  • Experience in the design and optimization of specialized machine learning accelerators (e.g., GPUs).

  • Experience designing modern computer architecture, including CPUs, GPUs, and memory systems.

  • Experience in analog computing or energy efficient ASIC design.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science, with an emphasis on computer architecture.

  • Experience in performance analysis and optimization of hardware designs.

  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including software engineers and research scientists.

  • Understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs) and transformer architectures.

  • Familiarity with hardware-software co-design principles and practices.

  • Proven track record of leading technical projects and delivering successful hardware solutions.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $221,000-$314,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   • Lead the co-design of advanced chip architectures for cutting-edge machine learning models, driving significant performance.

  • Translate research into practical hardware designs, collaborating with internal teams to bring innovative concepts to life in future products.

  • Collaborate with research scientists, software engineers, and product teams to influence hardware design, optimization, and model architectures, pushing the boundaries of Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities.

  • Develop and present proof-of-concept demonstrations that highlight the potential of novel hardware designs to enhance model performance and influence future chip development roadmaps.

  • Play a key role in making critical chip design decisions for seamless integration with advancements in Large Language Models (LLMs) and other AI applications.
