Job Title Student Assistant (Work Study) (Box Office)
General Description
This is a work-study student position responsible for assisting in ticket sales and providing patrons with information about various fine arts events produced by the College of Fine Arts. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Job Duties
Greets customers in a pleasant and courteous manner.
Answers the telephone in a professional manner.
Effectively communicates with others in a manner that ensures clear and mutual understanding of information.
Takes ticket orders by telephone and in person for College of Fine Arts events.
Acquires a working knowledge of ProVenue ticketing system.
Enters patron data into database.
Receives payments from students and others for departmentally sponsored activities.
Accepts cash, check, or credit card payments from customers; accurately collects money, makes change, and balances cash drawer at the end of the shift.
Demonstrates appropriate treatment of sensitive or confidential information.
Provides accurate information about fine arts events to patrons via the telephone or in person.
Processes subscription orders and subscriber exchanges.
Performs general office duties as needed.
Assists with special projects as assigned.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of general office and clerical procedures and concepts.
Ability to count money, make accurate change, and balance drawer at the end of shift.
Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Ability to work successfully with minimal daily supervision.
Ability to concentrate and accomplish tasks despite interruptions.
Ability to operate office machines including calculator, personal computer, and copier.
Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
Required Qualifications
The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.
No direct experience is required. Training and instruction will be provided.
A student must be awarded and accept a “Work-Study Permit” for each semester the student will be working.

Federal Work Study is a type of financial aid that you apply for within your FAFSA and is required for this position. Please contact the Financial Aid Office at 936-468-2403, finaid@sfasu.edu or Room 104 in the Austin Building with questions about Federal Work Study and if you qualify.
Physical Demands
Special Conditions for Eligibility
A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.
Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
