Supervises day camp, physical education, preschool, and other educational and general programs for Recreation Center patrons, ensuring the safety and security of each program participant; performs other duties as required or assigned.\ \ DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS\ The principal function of an employee in this class is to supervise day camp, physical education, preschool, other educational programs, special events, and contracted programs for Recreation Center patrons, ensuring a safe and healthful environment for each program participant. The work is performed under the supervision and direction of an assigned supervisor, but considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. Supervision is exercised over assigned personnel. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with the assigned supervisor, other City employees, school district employees, program participants and their parents, and the general public. The principal duties of this class are performed in a recreational facility environment.\ \ ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS\ Reasonable Accommodations Statement\ To accomplish this job successfully, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation. Reasonable accommodations may be made to help enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.\ \ Essential Functions Statement(s)\ -Plans, supervises, and evaluates the work of assigned personnel, including providing approval for the selection of staff, monitoring work schedules, interviewing for new or vacant positions, providing direction when necessary, disciplining as required, managing conflict, and rewarding employee performance when appropriate; or makes recommendations that are given particular weight about the change of status of other employees.\ - Develop a curriculum for Kids-in-Action Day Camp, Preschool, and Homeschool Physical Education programs, including providing Day Camp parents with a schedule of activities their child(ren) will be engaging in, and providing Homeschool students with a variety of activities and games, including the modification of games to fit the childrens interests and ability levels.\ - Maintain accurate records, including filing weekly schedules of employees work times, keeping attendance records of children in both programs, filling out accident and incident reports, and taking minutes in all staff meetings.\ -Ensures the safety of the participants of both Kids-in-Action Day Camp and Homeschool Physical Education programs.\ a. Maintains the ratio of staff members to participants at a number that prevents an unsafe atmosphere.\ b. Ensures all equipment used in both programs is in a safe condition, including inspecting all equipment on a timely basis.\ -Communicates to the parents of the program participants in a professional manner discussing discipline issues, behavior issues, positive progress, etc.\ -Uses standard office equipment and performs standard office support duties in the course of the work.\ -Assumes responsibility for other duties as required or assigned.\ -Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions.\ -Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publicatio s and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE\ Thorough knowledge of childcare laws, both state and local.\ Substantial knowledge of a variety of activities and games for children.\ Substantial knowledge of facilitating in-service training for staff, including how to conduct the training and what topics to cover.\ Substantial knowledge of time management.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING\ EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Bachelors degree in education, physical education, Recreation Administration, or related field. Some early childhood education classes are helpful.\ \ EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:\ Some (1-3 years) experience teaching children ages 2-18 in groups or school settings or any combination of education and experience, which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.\ \ REQUIRED SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:\ Possess or obtain first aid and CPR certificates. A teaching certificate would be helpful.
