Position Description
The Application Technician 1 - Cash position is located in the Customer Care Center Division of Metro Water Services (MWS) serves in the Cash area performing cash and accounting duties related to Metro Water Services customer accounts and payments. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required to be successful in this structured, fast-paced environment. This is a sedentary job in a traditional office environment.
Employees at Metro Water Services (MWS) work around the clock to supply, treat, manage, and protect our water resources in a sustainable manner for the benefit of all who live, work, and play in our community. Our dedicated, diverse workforce provides high quality drinking water and the best in wastewater treatment, storm water management, and waste collection services for our customers in the Nashville-Davidson County area. Our employees work together to service more than 210,000 water and 216,000 sewer accounts along with over 150,000 curbside waste collection customers.
Typical Duties
Provides maintenance of the payment kiosks located at the customer care center building.
Posts payments delivered to customer care center building via USPS.
Prepares bank deposits.
Prepares reports from the kiosks and provide these reports to the Admin Accounting area.
Performs cash updates in enQuesta.
Reconciles accounts as related to payments and charges and fees.
Initiates return check and credit card payment process on customer accounts to include setting and removing appropriate pay restrictions.
Researches and corrects misapplied payments.
Ability to count and exchange cash.
Prints refund checks.
Performs charge backs and return of payments to a customer financial institution.
Follows all best security practices associated with a cash room.
Performs financial adjustments to customer accounts.
Uses various software to perform searches and do research regarding payments.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent plus four (4) years of applications, financial and/or technical related experience.

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Documented cash handling experience/cashiering functions
Experience using software programs including Customer Information Systems, Cashiering System, or similar
Experience in utilizing multiple software applications simultaneously
