Position Description

This is a full time, Non-Civil Service position with Metro Action Commission.

JOB OBJECTIVE

ONE – Assist transportation manager with planning, organizing, and implementing the transportation needs of the agency. Performs a variety of other duties relative to the area of responsibility. Uphold the Mission, Vision, Values, and Philosophy of the Metropolitan Action Commission.

JOB DESCRIPTION

MAJOR JOB RESPONISBILITES

Assist Transportation Manager with coordinating the day-to day operations of transportation services and directing major projects.

Maintain DOT and other required records for vehicles, equipment, supplies, and driver files.

Monitor all Head Start bus routes, conduct periodic bus audits.

Maintain equipment inspection forms, work orders records and files.

Perform administrative duties as directed by the Transportation Manager

Review bus route assignment, assist with dispatching of drivers.

Prepare maintenance, accident, and repair reports.

Assist the Manager with special projects and complete special assignments.

Maintain records of equipment and inventory supplies.

Conduct physical vehicle inventories.

Assist with required training for transportation staff.

Participate in staff development activities and in-service training.

May drive regular bus runs and or field trips in emergency or substitute situations.

Performs various administrative duties.

Manage the Transportation Manager’s calendar and coordinate/schedule various meeting, appointments.

Prepare requisitions for vehicle maintenance and repair.

Works cooperatively with center and administrative personnel.

Communicates with parents, site managers and other Head Start personnel as needed to address transportation related concerns.

Complete and submit monthly reports to the Transportation Manager

Ensure all vehicles and drivers information is updated.

Perform related duties as required.

Typical Duties

SUPERVISION EXERCISED/SUPERVISION RECEIVED

This is a non-supervisory classification.

This classification is directly supervised by the Transportation Manager as well as the indirect supervision of the Administrative Services and Operations Director.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work environment involves moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions, e.g., working under extreme outdoor weather conditions, working around moving parts, carts, or machines, exposure to irritant chemicals, etc. Employee may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, coats, goggles, gloves, or shields.

The work of this classification requires some physical exertion such as walking, climbing, bending, stooping, stretching, or similar activities.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent plus two (2) years of pupil transportation/administrative training and four (4) years of relevant work experience as a CDL driver.

Skilled in setting goals.

Working knowledge of purchasing policies and procedures.

Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Shall be a resident of the State of Tennessee or become a resident of the state within six (6) months of employment with the Metropolitan Government.

LICENSES REQUIRED

A Valid Tennessee Commercial Driver’s License “Class B” with P and S endorsements is required for this position.
