Position Description

The Compliance Inspector 2 position is located within the Transportation Licensing Division (TLC) of the Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT). In this capacity, the employee is responsible for monitoring and enforcing parking ordinances which include meters, loading zones, valet zones, sidewalk vending zones, no parking zones, and residential parking throughout Metro Nashville. Employee will also be responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance with taxicabs, limousines, wreckers and transportainment vehicles. Enforcement of Metro’s ordinance on sidewalk vending is also part of the responsibilities for this position. Performs related work as required.

This position is on call 24 hours and is required to respond during declared emergencies or severe weather activities.

The Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT) delivers a range of services, and the nearly 400 employees work around the clock to ensure a multimodal system that offers choice and better connects neighborhoods, residents, businesses and visitors to the place that they need and want to go to in a safe manner. These employees are responsible for over 2,200 miles of public roadways and rights-of-way, over 6,000 streets, over 300 bridges, 835 traffic signals and over 1,200 miles of bike/sidewalk lanes and much more. Big events in Nashville consist of CMA Festival, Stanley Cup Finals, Titans games, and any number of special events. These require big preparation and big clean-up and the Nashville Department of Transportation employees are up for the challenge.

Typical Duties

  • Monitors and enforces parking ordinances which include meters, loading zones, valet zones, sidewalk vending zones, no parking zones, and residential parking.

  • Ensures regulatory compliance with taxicabs, limousines, wreckers and transportainment vehicles.

  • Enforces Metro’s ordinance on sidewalk vending.

  • Keeps accurate records and prepares detailed reports.

  • Provides interpretations of policies, rules, regulations, and guidelines.

  • Provides testimony and evidence in traffic & environmental court in support of citations issued.

  • Refers non-compliance cases to appropriate authority as necessary.

  • Keeps abreast of any changes or modifications in services, delivery procedures and/or regulatory rules and policies.

  • Prepares and presents various reports for the Division Manager, Traffic and Parking Commission, and Council.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of responsible inspection, investigative, or compliance experience in support of a regulatory program or service.

More education may be considered for some experience. (1:1 Ratio)

LICENSES REQUIRED

Valid Driver License

Work schedules may be morning, afternoon or evening shifts and could also consist of weekends and holidays. Work hours may require an irregular schedule and occasional overtime.

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
