Position Description
Nashville Metro Water Services is seeking an experienced professional engineer, in the role as an Engineer 2 - Plans Reviewer. This position will utilize their technical expertise and knowledge to manage and oversee complex projects/programs involving water, sewer and/or stormwater utilities.
Employees at Metro Water Services (MWS) work around the clock to supply, treat, manage, and protect our water resources in a sustainable manner for the benefit of all who live, work, and play in our community. Our dedicated, diverse workforce provides high quality drinking water and the best in wastewater treatment, storm water management, and waste collection services for our customers in the Nashville-Davidson County area. Our employees work together to service more than 210,000 water and 216,000 sewer accounts along with over 150,000 curbside waste collection customers. Typical Duties
Performs technical engineering review for new development and redevelopment in the Metro Water Services’ service area applying associated industry, regulatory (Federal, State and Local), Metro Government and public health and safety standards.
Participates / leads in Development Service (DS) related activities.
Responds to inquiries from contractors, consultants, citizens, legislators, and other Metro Departments / MWS Divisions.
Assigns and reviews development project plans to contract consultants as needed.
Coordinates with other Metro Water Service (MWS) Divisions, Metro Departments and/or agencies on infrastructure-related projects.
Coordinates with external stakeholders on development specifics of proposed projects.
May supervise internal plans review staff.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university, Professional Engineering License and six (6) years of post-degree engineering experience, including two (2) years as a professional engineer.
OR
Professional Engineering License and six (6) years of engineering experience, including two (2) years as a professional engineer.
LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid Driver License
Professional Engineer’s License
A Professional Engineering License from any state is required to apply for this position; however, the Tennessee Professional Engineering License must be obtained prior to completion of the probationary period.
Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.
Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in Environmental or Water Resources
Knowledge of engineering principles including the review, design, and construction of water, stormwater and sewer infrastructure
Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ArcGIS, and AutoCAD
