Summary:

  • Purpose: The Electronics Technician reports directly to the Maintenance Manager. The primary focus will be to lead and guide maintenance technicians on the repair and maintenance of plant equipment as effectively and economically as possible while being consistent with plant policies, practices and procedures. The person in this position will constantly drive to minimize overall maintenance costs. The position requires the candidate to troubleshoot and repair AC/DC motor controls and PLC’s as required. Experience in reading schematic drawings and ladder logic is required. In addition, this person will assist the Berry Global Inc. team in achieving our vision of being the dominant supplier of value added films in the industry.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities/Principal Duties:

  • Will participate in machine pm's and repairs spending 75% of time on the floor

  • Spends first 15 minutes of shift with previous shift maintenance technician discussing breakdowns and planning of tasks

  • Plan for upcoming pm's and lead technicians to maintain machines in safe, efficient and productive manner

  • Trouble shooting VFD's and PLC's

  • Troubleshoot machines and mechanical/electrical equipment to diagnose source of problem.

  • Perform repairs and upgraded with hand tools and/or power tools using safe work practices.

  • Replace broken or defective parts.

  • Perform calibrations on equipment according to written procedure.

  • Document maintenance activities and equipment repairs.

  • Conducts housekeeping activities in work area.

  • Perform other tasks as needed.

Qualifications

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Two year Vocational/Technical school degree in Industrial Electronics/Electricity or equivalent experience

  • Should have at least 5+ years of experience

  • Should be computer literate.

  • Should demonstrate the ability to build and maintain strong teamwork relationships

  • Education/Experience: Three to five years of related experience required. Formalized training in related areas i.e. welding, mechanics, rigging is highly desired.

  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, use hands & fingers to handle or feel objects,pushing/pulling,tools or controls; reach with arms and hands; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel or crawl. Ability to work at heights greater than six feet off of the ground.

· Ability to perform lift 50 lbs. consecutively, work at heights and stand/walking/climbing stairs.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, the ability to focus, peripheral vision and depth perception.

Equipment:

Must be familiar with the operation of applicable mechanical and electrical hand tools, electrical test equipment, alignment tools, etc. Operation of powered equipment i.e. forklifts, scissor lifts and boom lifts. Must also be familiar with office equipment to include computers, copiers and fax machine.

While performing the duties of the job the employee regularly works near moving machinery. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with frequent excursions into high noise areas.

This position regularly interacts with all levels of hourly personnel, support staff and management.
