Job Description:

The ‘Manager - Scrum Masters’ role leads a team of scrum masters assigned to programs and products at L3Harris | ForceX. This role must: Ensure successful Scrum practices across the organization, build proficiency in fundamental and advanced skills with individual scrum masters, and assume the role of scrum master for a team when required.

This role requires deep knowledge of the practices in agile/lean along with a range of skills to teach, mentor, and guide Scrum Masters across the organization. Additionally, this role is a cross-functional leader who works closely with Engineering, Operations, and Programs to build high performing teams across our company. This is a functional manager role with direct reports including hiring responsibilities. The position reports to the Director of Programs at L3Harris | ForceX.

Essential Functions:

  • Act as the expert on Agile and Scrum methodologies for the organization

  • Responsible for training, mentoring, and coaching scrum masters throughout the organization

  • Responsible for training, mentoring, and coaching cross-functional program and product teams in agile processes and practices

  • Develop, maintain, and audit standards for agile practices…within the context that we value individuals & interactions over processes and tools as well as working software over comprehensive documentation

  • Mobilize new teams (both internal and external) to agile practices and values

  • Responsible for resource management to ensure all teams have a scrum master assigned. This include forecasting demand and hiring thru PMO, resource leveling to meet organization’s needs, and assigning scrum masters to support specific programs, products, or efforts.

  • Evaluate scrum master performance on a quarterly basis and provide formal, informal feedback to support their career growth

  • Evaluate a team’s agile maturity then work with team leadership to improve performance

  • Support release planning development and metric tracking at the team and enterprise levels

  • Solve problems at their level

  • Onboard new employees and educate in scrum practices

  • Set scrum master team goals and track progress

  • Support the Senior Leadership Team’s vision for agile practices within the organization

  • Review and approve timecards, vacation, and other administrative requests

  • Responsible for decision making and conflict resolution within Scrum Master team as well as with other managers

  • Advanced knowledge of the real-world, tactical applications of L3Harris ForceX products

  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly learn, apply and communicate technical information on a variety of new software applications and hardware systems

  • Ability to translate customer requirements into workable development tasks

  • Builds a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised and resolved

  • Continuously learn to maintain knowledge of evolving practices within agile community

  • Provide support and lead special projects as needed

  • Come to work with a can-do, get things done attitude necessary to maintain our awesome culture

    Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as an agile trainer, coach, or manager

  • Minimum of four (4) years as a scrum master supporting a software development team

  • Experience conducting release planning, conducting scrum ceremonies, backlog management, and tracking team performance metrics as a member of an agile team

  • Comprehensive knowledge of agile methodologies, values, and procedures

  • Ability to define and recommend performance metrics that meet the need of the team

  • Excellent ability to communicate across multiple levels - from the team level up to the executive level

  • Comprehensive knowledge and proven experience with facilitation techniques, servant leadership, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency

  • Demonstrate sound judgment and strong reasoning skills

  • Demonstrate good analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Robust experience with agile PLM tools like JIRA, Rally, and Agility (formerly VersionOne)

  • Bachelor’s degree and 9 years minimum prior related experience as a practicing Scrum Master in a technology and/or software development environment, or equivalent of education and related experience

  • Graduate Degree with a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience.

  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience

  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM) certification

  • Ability to travel up to 20%

    Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Certified Agile Leader (CAL) certification

  • Increasing leadership roles within a practicing agile organization

  • Previous management of direct assigned employees

  • Led or supported agile transformations within an organization

  • Experience as an agile consultant with a top agency

  • Ability to obtain a US security clearance required
