Managing Attorney

Salary: $93,000- $108,000 per year

Legal Aid Societys mission is to advance, defend, and enforce the legal rights of low- income and vulnerable people in order to secure for them the basic necessities of life. Our staff includes national authorities in the fields of domestic violence, housing, consumer law, federal income taxation, health advocacy, non-profit group representation, social security, and special education.**

The Opportunity

The Managing Attorney will be at the heart of our vibrant Cookeville, TN office, leading a passionate team of 8, including 4 dynamic attorneys. In this exciting role, you'll provide top-notch legal representation to eligible clients while managing a caseload across two to three practice areas tailored to your unique strengths and the offices needs. You'll embrace a holistic approach, tackling various areas of law, administrative advocacy, and community education, all in line with our program guidelines and the Code of Professional Responsibility. As a local leader, you'll build strong relationships with community leaders, uncover opportunities for targeted outreach, enhance our effectiveness and systemic impact, and seek out new funding sources. This role, backed by grant funding, requires meeting specific goals and outcomes. While currently funded for the grant's duration, successful renewal could bring thrilling new opportunities for evolving job duties and responsibilities.

Responsibilities Include:

Provide high-quality legal representation in accordance with the Rules of Professional Conduct. Supervise the work of attorneys, support staff and volunteers per firms policies. Maintain accurate client files per case management guidelines. Engage in community education by speaking to groups and helping prepare materials. Hire and onboard new staff in coordination with HR and the Executive Director. Promote private bar involvement through the LAS Volunteer Lawyer Program. Ensure grant compliance through monitoring and review of the work of staff Foster collegial relationships within the staff and firm. Participate in internal committees and work groups. Address client satisfaction surveys and grievances. Adhere to Legal Services Corporations Performance Criteria and ABA Standards for Civil Legal Aid. Promote the professional development of office staff.

Who We are Looking for:

Juris Doctor (JD) with at least 4 years of legal practice. Proven leadership with dynamic supervisory experience and project management expertise. Admitted to practice in Tennessee, eligible for reciprocity, or willing to take first available bar examinat
