The Data Center Planning and Delivery Health and Safety team is looking for a motivated and organized individual to support the authoring and launching of our growing safety management program. This includes iterations to policies, standards, procedures and guidelines from the architecture elements of leadership, planning, support, operational controls, performance management and continuous improvement. The person in this role will author a mix of first of kind and make iterations to various levels of policies, standards, procedures, mechanisms and design tooling. This Program Manager is a tactical and strategic impact role, which will establish strategy in three year plans, annual goal setting, and prioritization of program development/deployment across multiple orgs. Partnering with Construction, Controls, Commissioning, Critical projects, field health and safety teams, procurement orgs and legal teams, this role connects the dots between teams with practical program solutions which improve on health and safety performance. This role will oversee H&S tooling & features within Procore, interface with systems and intelligence teams to turn data into intelligence for the business. This role will contribute to health and safety forums with suppliers, author narratives to gain buy-in and support for targeted actions, and interface with multiple levels of the organization.

Key job responsibilities

  • Author comprehensive programs, policies, standards, tools and mechanisms for improving health and safety at AWS.

  • Structure H&S management system to the AWS Safety Management Program governance, and ISO 45001 structure.

  • Identify management system gaps and prioritize needs according to the architecture elements of Leadership, Planning, Support, Operational Controls, Performance Management, and Continuous Improvement.

  • Responsible to ensure program compliance to regulatory jurisdictions, and conformance to AWS policies.

  • Align the global strategy, structure documentation regionally and apply H&S programs locally ensuring clear and concise communication and deployment plans are delivered to.

  • Establish score cards on H&S performance for the business to have clear read on how they are performing.

  • Complete ad hoc site visits to first hand see the application of your programs, intaking any and all feedback for iterations.

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly program deployment reports

  • Monitor and update changing regulations and industry trends that may influence H&S programs.

  • Develop weekly, monthly and quarterly business updates of KPI’s.

  • Domestic & international travel up to 25-40%.

A day in the life

You will use data and anecdotes to programmatically address H&S risks, trends, concerns, actions. You will create the materials others use to manage H&S in the business. You will intake escalations when users have questions on program requirements, intake and track program needs from a global workforce, listen and address confusion through press release and FAQ documents so the end users know how to use your programs.

You will apply your knowledge of the jurisdictional requirements, regional best practices, cultural norms, and location specific characteristics to improve DCPD activities in H&S by jumping in and showing the business “this is what the data is telling us, and here is a program/policy/procedure/guideline/tool to get it done.”

You must be an effective communicator, sending clear, concise and consistent messages verbally, in written form, and/or public speaking forums. You will play a key role in deploying mechanisms that manage H&S, while developing competencies and ownership of H&S in the business. You must have diplomacy, patience and tact to earn trust in relationships to effectively advise, instruct and challenge DCPD teams on H&S.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Construction Engineering or related field.

  • Experience in International Standards Organization standard application such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, or ISO 45001.

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant safety experience managing or building health and safety programs, with a proven record of safety, with minimum 5 years of experience working in the construction industry as a safety professional

  • 3+ years with tools such as: Microsoft Office, Excel, Tableau, Procore, Avetta, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A builder – not a maintainer in Safety Program Management with experience in field safety program deployment in construction environments.

  • Advanced degree and certification through recognized agency/association in occupational health and safety or equivalent (i.e. BCSP, ASSP, BCRSP, ITC-ILO, IOSH, ISPON, NEBOSH, SISO, MEM, etc)

  • Demonstrated ability to build compliance programs and embed a culture of compliance in a large, rapidly growing, global enterprise

  • Extensive knowledge of global construction safety regulatory frameworks (i.e. Construction, Design and Management Regulations- UK, Construction Work - Code of Practice - Australia etc).

  • Extensive knowledge of global construction incident management and risk mitigation programs.

  • High ethical standards with proven ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive information

  • Ability to identify, develop and implement department goals and strategies
