About the Work Unit:
The mission of the Mass Spectrometry Research Center (MSRC) is to bring state-of-the-art mass spectrometry expertise, methodology, and instrumentation to researchers at Vanderbilt University and Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The MSRC is located on the 9th floor in Medical Research Building III. The MSRC Schey lab occupies 2,500 square feet of laboratory space, and has two LC-MS/MS instruments, including one LTQ Velos ion trap and a Waters Xevo G2S QTOF instrument with HDX capabilities. Support for the laboratory comes from NIH- and ARPA-H funded projects.
Key Functions and Expected Performance:
Research
Execution of proteomic LC-MS/MS workflows
Follow specific workflows for sample preparation of human brain protein samples, including protein enrichment/purification, protein digestion, and sample clean-up
LC-MS/MS instrument operation and acquisition of proteomic data
Data analysis of proteomic data
Develop ELISA assays for specific brain protein modifications
Run neurotoxicity assays
Instrument Management
Daily operation and routine maintenance of LC-MS/MS instrumentation
Operation of instrument software for instrument calibration and data acquisition
Performance of instrument QA/QC procedures
Maintenance
Routine laboratory maintenance
Supply ordering
Data management
Record-keeping
Chemical waste disposal
Supervisory Relationships:
This position does not have supervisory responsibility.
Education and Certifications: Profile of an Ideal Candidate
MS in physical or biological sciences is required.
Qualifications:
At least two years of post-graduate experience required, five years of experience is preferred..
Laboratory experience in proteomics, biochemistry, or analytical chemistry
Experience in protein/peptide analysis using HPLC – tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), and mass spectrometry data analysis is desired.

Ability to learn and assist in development of new protocols in an evolving field
