Job Summary and Qualifications

The Senior Manager, Energy is responsible for negotiating energy contracts and managing a large portfolio for multiple health systems within the group purchasing organization. The objective is to ensure best industry pricing and contract terms commensurate with the risk profile of client members and their corporate owners. The Senior Manager, Energy must have an extensive knowledge of energy markets, the HealthTrust sourcing process, price risk management techniques and applicable energy deal structures, Energy Purchasing Agreements, suppliers and products in the HealthTrust Energy portfolio. The individual must possess excellent negotiating skills, be a highly detailed oriented self-starter who is able to work with guidance and minimal supervision, assume accountability for meeting business goals within deadlines, be able to identify contractual risks, and be proficient in mitigating business risks and identifying cost savings opportunities for member clients

What you will do in this role:

Category Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated proficiency of the energy contract portfolio:

  • fundamental and technical market dynamics

  • pricing comparisons between supplier offerings for various products

  • pipeline and transmission networks, capacity markets and physical flow patterns

  • federal and state regulatory issues which impact energy delivery and costs

  • awareness of legislative issues that impact energy and utility industry

  • understanding of energy cost drivers

  • resource issues that impact long term supply/demand balance

  • risk management techniques and modeling

Supplier Knowledge:

  • Must use knowledge of energy suppliers to develop strategies, create leverage, mitigate risks, and anticipate direction of the energy market including:

  • interpretation of Supplier SEC filings, annual reports, or analyst reports

  • discussion of future resource and capacity availability with suppliers and customers

  • investigation of new electricity and natural gas supplier entrants to energy market

  • consultation with HealthTrust legal team and Energy contracting team on master purchasing agreements

Sourcing Process:

Demonstrate accountability for the energy sourcing process, including strategy development, bid preparation, request for proposal process, contract negotiations, and transmitting energy deal terms to facilitate the agreement execution process. Manage Energy RFP Process:

  • monitor energy markets for favorable contracting opportunities

  • develop client energy procurement plan and strategy

  • identify and qualify potential energy suppliers

  • manage financial/data analysis and support activities

  • manage energy RFP process

  • collaborate with financial analyst team to leverage available resources and processes

  • perform supplier negotiations

  • prepare recommendation and secure client/supplier acceptance

  • ensure appropriate contract development, execution, and filing

  • thorough documentation of deal data in applicable platforms including in software system for tracking, reporting, forecasting and to facilitate timely fee reconciliation

Communications:

  • Communicate effectively with internal and external resources:

  • Present energy contract strategies and report outcomes to various stakeholders

  • Communicate negotiation status and results effectively with member client

  • Communicate bid process, negotiation status, deal awards, financial proposal concerns and other matters with suppliers

Collaboration:

  • With clients to develop risk management profiles and contracting objectives

  • With energy consultants to provide fundamental and technical market awareness

  • With energy suppliers to gain knowledge of changes in specific markets or market events impacting clients

  • With legal department for revisions to energy contracting templates and purchasing agreements

  • With financial analysts preparing load profiles, savings analysis, GPO fee reporting, or assessing supplier proposals

  • With coworkers to identify opportunities for clients to utilize additional HealthTrust vendor agreements

What qualifications you will need:

  • Accredited College Bachelor's Degree required in engineering, business, accounting or finance. Advanced degree desirable

  • 3 years of relevant work experience required

  • 5-10 years of relevant work experience preferred.

  • Relevant work experience includes, but is not limited to: Energy commodity trading, Natural gas or electricity industry, Energy marketing, Contracting financial analysis, and Commodity risk management

  • Certified Energy Procurement (CEP) or other comparable AEE certifications preferred

  • Must have strong analytical skills with the ability to create or interpret potentially complex financial models.

  • Expert knowledge of all MS Office Products and Energy Market licensed products (Bloomberg, DTN, Platts)

  • Excellent oral, written communication, presentation and time management skills
