Naval Air Systems Command AIRCRAFT ELECTRICIAN HELPER in Naval Air Station San Diego, California

Summary This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies through the Certain Competitive Service / Modified Direct Hire Authority. Responsibilities You will disassemble, repair, modify, assemble, test, install and assist in maintenance of aircraft electrical systems, equipment and accessories. You will correct minor discrepancies by removal, repair or replacement of defective circuits, wires, connectors, control units, plugs, switches, circuit breakers, diodes, resistors, capacitors, relays and other parts of aircraft electrical systems. You will use common hand and power tools and test equipment to facilitate rework operations. You will assist high grade artisans who will provide detailed instructions on assignments along with close supervison and detailed review in performing duties common to the trade. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Demonstrating basic knowledge of electrical theory in order to perform simple routine repair tasks on aircraft electrical systems, components and assemblies found in fixed and rotary wing aircraft; 2) Utilizing basic blueprints, technical manuals, IETMS (Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals), wiring diagrams, drawings and technical directives; 3) Exhibiting skill in the use of common hand and power tools, such as, wire strippers, wire crimpers, soldering irons, heat guns, multimeters and meggers. Education Additional Information This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Several vacancies may be filled. This position requires rotating shift work.
