Responsibilities

Work Schedule:

Schedule - 40 hours a week; 7:30 to 4:30 with 1 hour lunch

Job Specific Details and Tasks:

• Serves as a Practical Nurse performing patient care and nursing administrative duties for inpatients in accordance with established policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.

• Monitors and records age-appropriate physiological measurements.

• Orients new patients to the clinic/hospital environment.

• Assists with patient check-ins, admissions, discharges, and transfers as directed.

• Provides individualized patient teaching on appropriate topics to include preventative healthcare and health maintenance.

• Prepares and positions patients for diagnostic testing, examinations, treatments, and clinical procedures to include care of deceased patients.

• Performs appropriate portions of medical examinations, treatment, diagnostic, and clinical procedures.

• Records treatment, procedure rendered, and observed effects.

• Identifies and records patient problems and appropriately notifies provider/nursing team of observations.

• Prepare and administer prescribed medications (oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular and/or intravenous) and perform treatments according to established policies/procedures.

• Recognize urgent or emergent patient care situations, seek assistance of the RN and/or MD, Nurse Practitioner or Midwife and initiate appropriate emergency interventions as directed to include urgent intravenous access and procedures.

• Perform and complete specimen collections to include urine, catheter collection, venipuncture, tissue biopsies, KOH, STI swabs, GBS swabs, and any other indicated collections in accordance with unit policies/procedures.

• Adheres to infection control procedures including use of personal protective equipment, disposal of waste, and aseptic technique.

• Performs central sterile supply duties.

• Ensures all equipment is properly assembled, operates, cleaned and stored at the end of each work shift. Ensures preventive maintenance and routine cleaning are performed as directed.

• Performs medical records reviews and applies appropriate protocols and guidelines to determine medical needs.

• Maintains patient medical records in electronic format as well as hard copy as required.

• Prepares and submits administrative reports.

• Participates in training and continuing education programs for new procedures, techniques, and equipment.

• Ensures a safe work environment and employee safe work habits.

• Establishes and maintains appropriate, professional, interpersonal relationships with co-workers, families, peers, and other team members.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

* Education: Certificate. Graduate from an accredited community college, junior college, college, university or vocational nursing program approved by the appropriate State agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

* Experience: Three years of practical or vocational nurse experience after graduation.

* Licensure: Current, full, active and unrestricted license as a practical or vocational nurse.

* Life Support Certifications: BLS

* Security: Must possess ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.
