The Nurses Practicing in an Immersive Readiness Environment (NSPIRE) program is a PRE-NCLEX position tailored for newly graduated nurses from an accredited institution to complete a twelve week practice immersion curriculum before transitioning to a twelve month nurse residency program. The Nurse Apprentice NSPIRE, will complete clinical immersions,shadow and be exposed to the clinical environments in which they will work as a Registered Nurse upon successfully passing the NCLEX exam. As part of this structured program, the Nurse Apprentice will be immersed in an environment to observe the skills and components of being part of the healthcare team. While there will be limited patient interaction, the Nurse Apprentice will have the ability to practice selected skills and gain confidence in the acute care environment to prepare for transition into practice. The Nurse Apprentice will be exposed to a variety of immersion opportunities to perform competency-based skills.

Responsibilities

  • Learns and understands the Nursing Strategic Plan and Quality Outcome drivers that impact patient care.

  • Attends skill labs/simulation labs, equipment exposure and immersion opportunities (ex. Clinical Outcomes, special procedure pre & post, respiratory department, Infection Prevention).

  • Synthesizes components of assessment in an ongoing and systematic manner focusing on physiologic, psychosocial, and cognitive status. May not give medications or initiate Intravenous Therapy.

  • Attends and observes selected hospital-wide committee meetings. Submits reflections on experiences.

  • Will gain exposure on how to create a safe patient environment by learning the principles of a high reliability organization.

  • Attends and participates in learning experiences with the goal to educate the apprentice on different aspects of nursing at HMH.

  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of Associate Degree or BSN program (GPA-minimum 3.0) *New RNs hired without a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing will be required to obtain a BSN within 3 years as a condition of employment.

  • Show proof of Registration for registered nurse licensure exam

  • Ability to work varied days and varied hours.

  • The ability to learn quickly in immersive environments

  • Patient Care Technician (PCT) training preferred

  • AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification preferred
