City of New Bedford HR Generalist in New Bedford, Massachusetts

Summary Performs a variety of complex administrative, technical, and professional work in analyzing and administering personnel, payroll deduction programs, benefits, labor relations, applicant tracking, advertising, onboarding, and other components of the personnel process. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervision Scope: Provides guidance and overview of the Human Resources process and protocols to employees and applicants. Supervision Received: Works under the direction of the Director of Human Resources / Assistant Director of Human Resources. Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience Two years of college-level coursework or an Associate?s degree in Business Management, Public Administration, Human Resources, or a closely related subject. Three years of administrative, professional, or Human Resources work or experience in a closely related field. Any equivalent combination of education and experience. Required Skills and Abilities Sound knowledge of administrative support processes and protocols Sound knowledge of Human Resources best practices and interpretation of local regulations. Ability to establish and maintain an excellent and effective professional working relationship with Director, staff, Mayor, other municipal government agencies, and members of the public. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work cooperatively and productively in a team atmosphere, demonstrating initiative and drive. Expert computer skills and thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook and municipal financial software Munis. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate. Ability to embrace the City?s mission and organizational values.
