The Job:
As a Chief Engineer (Digital Products) Job Title Here, you’ll be part of our Tools & Outdoor team working as a hybrid employee . You’ll get to:
You will collaborate with Digital Product team staff, Tools & Outdoor (T&O) Product Leadership, other Chief Engineers (digital module and platform leaders), the Chief Platforming Officer, and other key stakeholders for the development and implementation of strategic plans that meet or exceed user needs and established product performance criteria.
You will partner across Product Execution, Product Management, Commercial and other key stakeholders in developing SBD’s end-to-end connected solution digital architecture.
You ensure we develop clearly defined Critical To Quality (CTQ) elements for our comprehensive connected solution and can successfully translate these for teams that are designing, building, managing, and maintaining a suite of embedded modules, networking systems, IoT back end, and software components that deliver feature rich services for asset management, asset performance status, user safety, data analytics, and more.
Your solution architectures will utilize AWS IoT Core in addition to SBD developed services to ingest, transform, and expose rich data from SBD Tool and Outdoor devices in a secure and scalable manner to our web and mobile applications.
You will own the continuous lifecycle management of the connected platform and maintain technology roadmaps and future solution needs in partnership with functions and teams across SBD.
Working with the Engineering Excellence, Project Managers, Digital Project Management Office (PMO) lead, QA and others, you will create and manage connected platform reporting systems to track and manage our performance with On Time / On Cost / On Quality metrics and report our results at Cross Functional Meetings.
You will exhibit strong decision-making capabilities, particularly regarding prioritizing among disparate business needs and objectives.
You will continue to enrich our application lifecycle management best practices with a continuous improvement mindset and work with Engineering Excellence and PMO demonstrate progress through KPI and metrics reporting.

3+ years of demonstrated relevant experience in the following areas:
Demonstrated ability to define product vision and detailed roadmaps for IoT cloud based Connected Digital Services across embedded systems engineers, tool and device designers, networking engineers, back/front end and mobile application teams.
Referenceable skills working collaboratively with the other Chief Engineers, Engineering Teams, Product Management, Commercial and other key stakeholders in developing and advancing digital product architectures.
Ability to clearly define, document and articulate digital product requirements that are Critical To Quality (CTQ) for digital solutions and driving these through all product contributor deliverables in achieving overall success.
Ability to create and manage reporting systems to track and manage comprehensive team performance with On Time / On Cost / On Quality metrics and report results at leadership meetings.
Working knowledge of global compliance for secure handling, device data, and communication of such data as identified in GDPR, Industry related specifications such as PII, related evolving regulations and company policy.
10+ years of demonstrated relevant experience in the following areas:
Ability to lead others and work effectively with users and company colleagues in globally distributed cross functional organization to mature solutions through delivery and post deployment.
Strong Product Roadmap and Program Management Skills to deliver quality products and services on time, on budget, and compliant with cybersecurity and data privacy requirements.
Work with product managers and customer stakeholders to define and track key product performance indicators (KPIs), Product Critical To Quality & release-specific success metrics.
Successfully managing, prioritizing, and assessing the impact of all work items, such as new features, defects, including providing the decisions on when to create, fix or defer at the detailed project delivery level.
Development of best practices and execution of development leadership, problem solving, and solution deployment
Ability to manage team finances and development resources to meet budget targets and constraints in addition to developing cost models for cloud and web-based products for future product related investments.
Other experiences that are a strong plus include:
Working knowledge of our technology stacks including, on-device firmware, Linux Gateways & WAN communication and IoT data delivery to cloud services, Web & Mobile software development.
Leading teams using Object Oriented Programing Principles and experience working to agile methodologies and lean product development.
Successfully collaborating with external partners, vendors, consultants, and Engineering Service Providers to manage overall delivery.
Proven Innovation, application of disruptive concepts, patentable ideas, and process, and working knowledge of intellectual property protection is a plus.
Education
Undergraduate degree (sciences, engineering or mathematics preferred) or 5 years equivalent work experience in digital technologies.
Master’s degree in engineering related field of study is highly desirable.
Additional digital technology certifications are a plus.

Pay Range Language: Use the paragraph below only for the states listed.
The base pay range for this position in California, Colorado, Washington, New York, Maryland is $110,5000.00 $221,000.00 per year. Pay is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign-on payment may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
