Description

Our client is seeking an experienced and analytical Controller. This is a long-term interim role. The ideal candidate must have a proven track record in a financial leadership role within a non-profit organization, with proficiency in both strategic vision and operational management. The Controller will play a critical role in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, overseeing fiscal reporting, identifying new funding opportunities and maintaining robust internal control systems.

This highly visible role requires strong leadership skills to manage the accounting, billing, and payroll departments and participate in various management meetings. The Controller will report to the CFO and work closely with the leadership team strategic planning and operational implementation, whilst providing accuracy in the preparation and reporting of financial information.

Applicants must be knowledgeable in government requirements and compliance, with the ability to oversee the completion of audits, tax returns, and state reports.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership across finance team by engaging with different groups

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or another relevant field

    • CPA and/or CMA preferred
  • Proven communication and negotiation skills, ability to establish trusted advisor/consultant relationships

  • 7+ years professional accounting and controllership or public accounting and internal controls experience and/or Internal Audit or Controls and Compliance

  • Demonstrated ability to manage, lead change, and build process improvements

  • Top notch analytical, organizational, and vendor management skills

  • Practical knowledge of account reconciliation

  • Financial Consolidation experience necessary

  • Solid understanding of month end closings

  • Grant accounting experience preferred

  • Auditing experience

  • Well-founded grasp of journal entries

  • HUD experience highly desired

  • Proven knowledge of general ledger
