Posting Summary
The Institute for Quantitative Biomedicine at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is seeking a fully self funded Associate Research Professor - Non Tenure Track. This individual would be seeking to understand at atomic resolution the mechanistic underpinnings of stress responses. They should have experience studying transcription and DNA repair ATPases, regulation of RpoS, and Mfd. The candidate should have a current research goal to decipher, structurally and functionally, how key factors regulate transcription, promote the preferential repair of active genes, mediate hypermutation and the acquisition of antibiotic resistance. The candidate should also have experience researching macromolecular interactions that are being sculpted during stress responses, leading to accelerated molecular evolution and preserving genomic integrity. The research they perform will have direct relevance for antibiotic development via anti-evolution drugs and the dissection of cellular mechanisms involved in bacterial virulence and the generation of genetic diversity. The candidate will bring active federal awards which will directly support the position and laboratory resource requirements.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
Applicants must hold a PhD in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or a related area, have a deep working knowledge of the biochemical and biophysical underpinnings of DNA transactions essential for the maintenance of genomes and for controlling the flow of genetic information, and a solid publication track record. Applicants must have relevant postdoctoral experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of biochemistry and biophysics with complementary structure determination method experience with X-ray crystallography, small-angle X-ray scattering and electron microscopy. They must have the ability to elucidate the architecture, function, and regulation of protein and protein-nucleic acid complexes. They must also have the ability to create successful federal grant proposals in support of the candidate's research activities.
