Job Overview:

This leadership position functions to provide strategic, operational, and thought leadership to support CSH patient safety and quality initiatives and journey towards high reliability. The role provides direction and coordination to develop & implement evidence based programs and services that produce measurable improvements in processes and practices that affect patient safety and support high reliability across the organization.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing & Master s Degree in Nursing or related field required. PhD in Nursing|DNP preferred Experience in leading teams through process improvement and change initiatives

  • In-depth knowledge of evidence based practice, performance improvement and patient safety concepts Ability to motivate and sustain interest in improving patient safety and clinical quality

  • In-depth knowledge of nursing operations, professional practice models and standards, and regulatory standards Significant experience in educational program development, including curriculum and competency development Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive management experience, preferably in pediatric healthcare

  • Effective verbal and written communication & presentation skills

  • Effective organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills Strong leadership skills

  • Adapt with electronic medical records & review

  • Proven track record of working with all levels of staff

  • Project management experience

  • Ability to manage several projects and processes simultaneously and meet deadlines

  • Proficiency with: PowerPoint, Word processing, Internet literature searches, use of audiovisual equipment and development of multimedia educational program development

Preferred:

  • Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) certification preferred

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • Current RN Licensure in the state of NJ

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Shift working, 9:00 5:00 each day

  • Days to work

  • FT/PD

Essential Functions:

  • Directs and coordinates patient safety activities across the organization as assigned, including but not limited to, quality, compliance, and performance audits; surveillance activities; prospective risk assessments and analyzes; and intensive analyzes

  • Mentors and coaches other leaders and managers in conducting prospective risk and intensive analyzes, action planning, monitoring and auditing

  • Conducts RCAs in investigating occurrences, identifying proximate causes, developing root causes, and drafting corrective action plans for discussion with key stakeholders

  • Serves as a change agent, develops, coaches, and facilitates complex process optimization projects as assigned, in order to achieve measurable progress to achieve strategic priorities

  • Provides thought leadership and recommendations for improving workflows, team structures, and system configurations

  • Rounds to influence staff in a continual pursuit of patient safety improvement opportunities

  • Establishes and maintains the objectives and strategy for quality and patient safety professionals and team members in order to effectively contribute to executing the overarching CSH strategic plan

  • Participates in reporting and communication of quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, quality and patient safety awareness, and safety culture survey administration

  • Coordinates tracking and reporting of clinical outcomes of assigned clinical indicators and quality improvement initiatives e.i. National Database for Nursing Quality Indicators and other registries/databases

  • Works with organization stakeholders to define existing and new processes and recommend solutions and improvements as they affect accreditation and/or regulatory requirements

  • Serves as a resource for leaders and staff on patient safety and quality improvement activities, education, and use of patient safety and high reliability tools

  • Supports the work of the infection prevention and CSH infection surveillance activities as assigned

  • Acts as leader for HRO and local implementation of HRO principles and culture adherence

  • As an HRO leader participates and leads as appropriate initiatives to improve the patient experience

  • Directs the implementation of programs by evaluating the quality of services provided through gap analyzes (process improvement activities, event reporting, patient safety standards, etc.), review of reports (e.g. Press Ganey, Joint Commission surveys, Sentinel Event reports, satisfaction surveys, etc.), and risk assessments.

  • Fosters the use of systematic evaluative research data with regard to process and performance improvement to facilitate implementation of an evidence-based practice across the organization.

  • Identifies and assists staff across the organization in finding opportunities to improve patient care workflow, work processes, and quality, and then works collaboratively to implement and monitor improvements.

  • Participates and coordinates in High Reliability activities as directed, including but not limited to: Oversees the Safety Coach program and mentors Safety Coaches in their role; development and implementation of unit-based safety huddles; error prevention tool refresh, among others

LEADERSHIP:

Demonstrates effective leadership skills including: systems thinking, critical thinking, problem-solving, goal setting, decision-making, delegation, strategic planning, project management, coaching and mentoring.

Evaluates own practice in relation to professional practice standards, relevant statutes and regulations, maintaining continuing professional nursing competence and teaching and learning effectiveness.
