Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a IRB Administrator for the Office for Research. As part of the Office for Research, the IRB Administrator provides critical regulatory support to Rutgers IRBsby overseeing the Expedited Review process.Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Provides day-to-day oversight and support of the Rutgers human research protection program.
  • Conducts regulatorily required tasks that are university-wide and that encompass all study sites.
  • Manages and directs initial and continuing review of research, reporting of unanticipated problems and serious or continued non-compliance.
  • Screens and reviews complex research protocols submitted for review, conducts the review of such protocols.
  • Provides subject matter expertise and counsel to investigators on the protection of human subjects research, including regulations governing the use of such subjects.
  • Provides education and training to reviewers, faculty researchers and staff on a wide variety of topics.
  • Utilizes home-grown and other University databases.
  • Protects integrity and confidentiality of research.
  • Assists faculty users with electronic protocol submission and provides advice to researchers regarding federal and other relevant regulations.
  • Supports a team of IRB Administrators, providing guidance, oversight and mentorship, while maintaining a full caseload of expedited protocols for review.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in health sciences or a related field, or an equivalent combination of research experience and/or education that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of research and regulatory issues.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of human subjects' research experience with at least 2 of those years in an IRB administrator or researcher role within higher education or a research institute.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the IRB process.
  • Demonstrated verbal and writing skills in addition to great problem-solving, self-initiation, and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated excellence in customer service; experience with high volumes and rigid deadlines.
  • Familiarity with research ethics and methods and the ability to conduct independent literature research.
  • Solid PC skills including thorough knowledge of MS Office functions, and electronic database tracking systems.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills, a collaborative style, and experience working with faculty, staff and students in achieving their research goals.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's or other advanced degree, prior work in human subject research or research compliance, protocol writing and/or document review, and grant proposal congruence review.
  • Certified IRB Professional (CIP).
