Overview
The New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station (NJAES) is an integral component of Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. The experiment station provides a diverse range of research, extension, and education programs that serve the people of New Jersey and the urban, suburban, and rural communities in which they live. Through its Cooperative Extension offices in all 21 New Jersey counties, dedicated 4-H agents, Extension specialists, Family & Community Health Sciences educators, and Agriculture and Natural Resources agents work to serve New Jersey residents in every area of the state.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Program Associate II - Cape May for the 4-H Youth Development Program. The successful candidate is responsible for providing professional leadership and support to the Cape May County 4-H Youth Development Program targeting youth in grades K-13 (one year out of high school) and related to all 4-H Mission Mandates: Science, Engineering, and Technology; Healthy Lifestyles; and Civic Engagement (4-H club and teen leadership)Among the key duties of the position are the following:
  • Program plans, implements, and evaluates educational programs (including implementation and support of needs-based culturally and academically relevant programs that target underserved audiences).
  • Utilizes a variety of delivery modes (including 4-H clubs and community outreach programs); volunteer development and leadership.
  • Programs marketing and public relations.
  • Creates and supports needs based culturally relevant programs that target underserved audiences. Actively participates in appropriate departmental, Rutgers Cooperative Extension, School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, University and County administrative functions.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in education, human/youth development, sociology, science, and/or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Certifications/Licenses
  • Ability to travel statewide and beyond and have a valid driver's license.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a team member with external and internal stakeholders.
  • Experience in managing people and evidence of effective human relations skills.
  • Proficient in public speaking and written business-level communication.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills (oral and written).
  • Experience in working with diverse audiences/clientele - evidence of effective human relations skills and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse clientele.
  • Initiative and creativity - the ability to start and complete a project with minimal supervision; self-directed.
  • Flexibility - ability to work daytime, evenings, and weekends, as needed.
  • Personal organization skills - the ability to set priorities and manage multiple job tasks.
  • Demonstrated highly proficient computer skills.
  • Selected candidates must agree and authorize the University to conduct a complete background investigation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience or course work in youth development programming, volunteer management, working with diverse audiences, and/or collaboration/coalition building.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English (read, write, speak). Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking will be assessed as part of the interview process.
  • Grantsmanship and other resource development.
  • Agricultural and/or animal science education.
  • Marketing/public relations skills.
Equipment Utilized
  • Computer, printer, and related software including but not limited to Microsoft Office suite and 4-H Online in collaboration with ES237 reporting system. Highly proficient computer skills required.
  • Email for communications and research.
  • Equipment related to teaching (laptop, LCD projector, flash drives, Bluetooth, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of current and changing electronic technology.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Ability to carry demonstration supplies, presentation equipment, and class materials.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
