Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist IV for the Behavioral Sciences division within the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the purpose of the Research Teaching Specialist-IV (RTS-IV) position is to support research using digital approaches to understand and address the links between sleep/circadian rhythms, mental health, substance use, and cessation in underserved populations. Current lab projects include gaining a better understanding of the potential associations between sleep dysregulation and smoking behavior and cessation outcomes may enhance smoking cessation interventions for smokers. The RTS-IV will be involved in highly specialized and technical research within the lab, such as recruiting, monitoring, & contacting participants, conducting remote interviews/surveys and data collection, maintaining databases, and supporting dissemination of research findings.Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Participates in all aspects of research and ensures compliance with study protocols. Monitors progress of projects. Reports to the Principal Investigator on project progress, problems, and the need for adjustments.
  • Recruits, screens, consents, and enrolls participants for studies per project timelines. Ensures participant completion of study activities per protocol. Maintains study recruitment, accrual, and participation documents and incentives.
  • Creates surveys using survey software programs as directed. Conducts remote qualitative interviews/surveys and administers surveys per study protocol. Abstracts information from medical records per protocol, maintaining confidentiality of data.
  • Responsible for study data entry, data management, preliminary data screening, and data cleaning throughout the project. As directed, provides support in other data processing and analysis. Prepares reports containing findings, analysis, conclusion and recommendations (i.e., grants, narratives, position papers, etc.), as requested.
  • Research activities may require flexible (i.e., evening or weekend) activities on occasion per project demands.
  • Assists with progress reports, administrative, regulatory, and study accrual/progress updates for all assigned studies.
  • Prepares and maintains regulatory documentation, including IRB, OnCore, and Clinicaltrials.gov as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master's Degree in a relevant field (e.g., Public Health, Psychology, Social Work, Health Education), or a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field plus one (1) year of related research experience is required.

  • Demonstrated detail orientation; strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, multi-tasking, prioritizing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Skills with survey building software such as REDCap and experience with statistical software (e.g., SPSS) and IRB submissions preferred.
