UPMC Histotechnician/Senior Histotechnician in New Castle, Pennsylvania
UPMC Jameson is excited to be hiring a Full-time Histotechnician/Senior Histotechnician or Histotechnologist to help support the histology lab! This role with be scheduled Monday through Friday 8- hour varying day shifts. This role will have no on-call, no weekend or holiday responsibility.
Histotechnician salaries start at $19.10/hr!
Senior Histotechnician salaries start at $20.65/hour!
Histotechnologist salaries start at $21.52/hr!

Sign-On Bonus Details:
$12,000 for a 2-year commitment for Inexperienced candidates
$15,000 for a 2-year commitment for Experienced candidates
Purpose:
Process and prepare specialized tissue samples in a clinical laboratory. Ability to process all Center of Excellence specialized tissues and specimens and prepare all specialized stains and techniques.
Histotechnician
Responsibilities:
Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
*Performs other duties as assigned.
Accurately prepares slides for microtomy using the barcode label in order to maintain correct patient identification throughout the process.
Comply with all UPMC and departmental policies, procedures and work practices.
Demonstrate complete knowledge of CoPath related to Histology workflow.
Demonstrates progression of skills towards working independently in an advanced staining area.
Ensures all tissues are embedded and cut according to department specific protocols with proper orientation and complete sections including no folds, chatter, artifacts or floaters.
Maintain instruments following quality control specifications and daily maintenance protocols.
Perform QC checks at each phase of processing/ staining
Perform ancillary or miscellaneous tasks such as filing, cleaning, stocking supplies.
Process and prepare surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining and cover slipping. Embed and cut specialized tissue based on location including minute biopsy protocols.
Supports academic mission of department.
Senior Histotechnician
Responsibilities:
Provide independent technical leadership, consulting with the histology leadership team on unusual or complex cases. Serve as a resource to others regarding procedural and technical information. Provide ongoing training, orientation and instruction to histology team members and students.
Demonstrate complete knowledge of CoPath related to Histology workflow.
Perform QC checks at each phase of processing/ staining.
Process and prepare surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining and cover slipping. Embed and cut specialized tissue based on location including minute biopsy protocols.
Perform all tasks of an advance staining bench (i.e. IHC, special stains, etc.)
Accurately prepares slides for microtomy using the barcode label in order to maintain correct patient identification throughout the process.
Maintain instruments following quality control specifications and daily maintenance protocols. Perform root cause analysis on equipment failures and unexpected test results, informing the supervisor of critical failures. Coordinate equipment repair and service as necessary.
Ensures all tissues are embedded and cut according to department specific protocols with proper orientation and complete sections including no folds, chatter, artifacts or floaters.
Perform ancillary or miscellaneous tasks such as filing, cleaning, stocking supplies
Histotechnolgist
Responsibilities:

High school diploma.
Completion of the educational requirements needed to take the Histotechnician (HT) exam:
Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited HT program within the last 5 years OR;
Associate's Degree or at least 60 semester hours of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry.
1 year of clinical laboratory experience post-training is preferred.
Senior Histotechnician:
High school diploma.
Completion of the educational requirements needed to take the Histotechnician (HT) exam; successful completion of a NAACLS accredited HT program within the last 5 years
or an Associate's degree or at least 60 semester hours of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry.
3 years of clinical laboratory experience post-training is required Histotechnologist:
Completion of the educational requirements needed in order to take the Histotechnologist (HTL) certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP):
B.S. Degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours of biology and chemistry AND successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnology program within the last 5 years OR;
B.S. Degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry AND one year full time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory in the U.S., Canada or a CAP/The Joint Commission (JCAHO)/AABB accredited laboratory within the last 10 years.
Experience must be under the supervision of a pathologist (certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology) or an appropriately board certified medical scientist.
1 year of full time experience in a histology laboratory preferred. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Am Society Clinical Pathology Histology Technician (HT) certification from ASCP is required within 1 year of hire.
American Society for Clinical Pathology required for Senior Histotechnician.
