U.S. Coast Guard Museum Specialist, GS-1016-11 in New London County, Connecticut

Summary The position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), United States Coast Guard (USCG), Director of Governmental and Public Affairs, Office of Coast Guard Heritage (CG-0924), National Coast Guard Museum (CG-09241) in New London, Connecticut. Responsibilities This role serves as a Museum Specialist. This position is to perform a full range of complex curatorial and collections work in a museum. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Managing curatorial data and museum collection. Monitoring and maintaining environmental and housekeeping conditions of artifacts and exhibits on-display and in collections storage areas. Preparing artifacts and exhibit space for installation or removal of exhibits. Assisting public with scholarly and subject specific inquiries. Providing recommendations and technical expertise for exhibit design. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship is required. Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service. A one-year probationary period may be required. This is not a Bargaining Unit position. Suitable for Federal employment. Qualifications To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Specialized experience must include the following: Managing collections, curatorial data entry, and museum administrative processes; AND Planning and executing artifact conservation, artifact and exhibit case maintenance, exhibit installation, and exhibit removal actions; AND Communicating planned concepts, methods and techniques to leadership and external stakeholders. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. Education This position does not have a positive education requirement at this grade level.
