POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, including the development and implementation of new programs. The Sports and Recreation Director-Youth Sports is responsible for the successful operation of the Youth Sports department. Major components include program administration and development, fiscal management, staff administration and development, quality control, and volunteer recruitment. This position will have key support roles in strategic planning, relationship building, fundraising, and new program growth. The Sports and Recreation Director-Youth Sports will oversee the hiring and supervision of employees in each program, train staff and volunteers, evaluate the effectiveness of programs, manage and monitor budgets and resolve all matters that may arise in the programs, keeping with the YMCA core values, while working in collaboration with other departments to achieve the Association’s goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manages the youth sports program, including developing and monitoring the program budget to meet fiscal objectives; compiling program statistics to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in the program; securing, scheduling, and maintaining the needed fields and facilities; creating and scheduling the activities or events; and maintaining and/or updating and transporting program equipment for games and practices.

  • Ensures programs and services meet community needs to include supervising existing program activities, establishing new program activities, and expanding the program within the community as needed. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.

  • Introduces Adult Sports and Recreation programs to engage with the communities we serve.

  • Implements and oversees all of aspects of Sports Galore Summer Camp

  • Assures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as they relate to program areas, including ADA accommodations where appropriate; ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed.

  • Recruits and hires diverse staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. Onboards and develops them for success. Maintains staff schedules and evaluates staff performance.

  • Creates teams; develops and distributes team practice and game schedules; trains and schedules sports officials and coaches; develops and distributes rules, guidelines, and handbooks; purchases and distributes team uniforms and awards; coordinates team photographs; organizes and hosts season parties and events; organizes and conducts sports clinics.

  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions; develops and maintains collaborative relationships with staff, parents and caregivers, and community organizations (e.g., state child care licensing agency, school administration) to maximize program impact and drive overall outcomes; maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.

  • Organizes or participates in Y activities, such as committees, special events, and fundraising.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in physical education, sport management, human services, social services, recreation, business or equivalent preferred.

  • 3+ years related experience with managing multiple program activities, program development & marketing, and fiscal management

  • Ability to assist in the direction of multi-site programs through supervision of staff, public relations, program development and fund-raising.

  • Excellent financial skills including budget preparation and project management.

  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Strong time management and organizational skills.

  • Knowledge of quality program development and coordination of activities.

  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.

  • Completion of YMCA Team Leader certification within 3 years.

  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

    SALARY: $ 60,000/annual

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
